For quite awhile now my partner and I have been planning to get a cat, and we're finally going for it in a couple weeks! So this week's roundup is all about cat/pet beds! How to Make a Backpack from an old Men's Jacket

First, get yourself an old men’s jacket- they are a-plenty at any thrift or vintage shop. The bigger the better.

Detach the sleeves at the seem. Remove the collar and take out any shoulder pads or stuffing that’s going to get in your way.

Shape the bag, Rob arranges the front pockets of the jacket to be on the front of the bag so he folds...

With back to school coming up and Threadbanger and Decor it Yourself devoting an entire week to it, I was asking myself, "How can I contribute?" So I scoured the forums and found a great question from JaymieKarn, asking how to recycle binders. And as much I wanted to use them to rebuild my grandma's fence, make a doghouse, start a compost heap or turn those old binders into an alternative fuel...

POSTED BY Kathreen, Editor of Whip Up, 21 August 2008 | PERMALINK

This week on whipup:

Whipup has been jumping and pumping with lots of fantastic tutorials and ideas. Some of my faves include the fabric dolls house and a soft barn tutorial. Also Jenna from Corgi pants has offered whipup readers a free 'chicken scratch' pattern and has a few others at her website too.

I also really loved researching yarn clubs this week and am also really...

I've always wanted to know how to decoupage and I know its pretty easy and can yield fabulous results to just about anything. In keeping with the DIY back to school dorm fashion, How About Orange gives this great tutorial on how to turn a simple glass vase in a piece of decoupage artwork by using old sheet music and mod podge. It's similar to Meg's wood / glue / inspirational photo...

Zip It!

POSTED BY Morgan Hungerford, 20 August 2008 | PERMALINK

Last Fall/Winter saw the beginning of the exposed zipper trend, and it certainly carried full force over into the current and upcoming season. I love exposed zippers - they're a sleek way to lend a deconstructed vibe to any piece of clothing, and they couldn't be simpler to DIY.

Setting an exposed zipper is incredibly easy, and Expert Village has a great video from crafter Candi...
