Great episode Meg! Thanks so much, because I was actually trying to come up with great DIY wall ideas that weren't permanent since I rent an apartment! It's like you read my mind!

  • Meg wrote in reply on May 20, 12:02 pm

I am so glad this helped you out, KellesBelles! And yes, I DID read your mind.

Sooo cute! Meg's hair is awesome. I especially love the branch decal above the bed, really sharp!

I just moved into a new place with way more wall space than I knew what to do with, so this episode is especially helpful for me! Great ideas as always!

oh wow, this is perfect! i was just about to go out and buy paint for my wall.. for a mural, but contact paper is such a good idea because i can just peel it off when i'm tired of it :D

  • rachelrossner wrote on May 20, 4:18 pm

Thanks for yet more great ideas. I didn't realize that wall decals were so easy to take off the wall - I always imagined they left a sticky mess!

  • rachelrossner wrote on May 20, 4:19 pm

And I LOVE your silhouette decals!

  • peach (guest) wrote on May 20, 5:15 pm

Love the episode!!!! This could also be a great gift idea for someone special - who doesn't want a cute little shadow of their beloved pet or could be a cute decorating concept idea for a baby room, so sweet.
ps - your hair is killing me it is so cute!!!

  • Blue (guest) wrote on May 20, 7:45 pm

This is so fascinating, but because I don't have sound of my computer, is there a text step-by-step for this? I'd love to use it, but there's really only so much lip-reading I can do....xD

I think a text version of all these would be really helpful, thanks if you can!

  • Jenny (guest) wrote on May 20, 9:54 pm

Great idea, except it's been done. And it isn't allowed in any dorms I know of. Be sure to check.

  • Jenny (guest) wrote in reply on May 20, 9:56 pm

with the contact paper, I mean

  • Barbara (guest) wrote on May 20, 11:37 pm

Love the silhouettes (and your show!)

  • Rose (guest) wrote on May 21, 2:41 am

Woot! I'm going to be working at a camp this summer, and last summer my walls were so dull! This will be so awesome for decorating my ... bunk ... area. XD

  • chickharmony wrote on May 21, 8:22 am

This is so awesome!!! I am about to move into a gorgeous vintage building in the "art district" in my city and can't paint. I already have so many ideas. and I have to say I am so so so so so glad that there is a home version of threadbanger. I love this!!!

  • elizabeth (guest) wrote on May 21, 1:23 pm

What a cute idea! I'm surprised at how much those cutouts look liked you! Keep on making my tuesdays brighter with some more great ideas!

  • pamela munro (guest) wrote on May 21, 2:37 pm

Great ideas - especially now that contact paper isn't as sticky as it was years ago - Love the branch! Too bad my walls are covered with pix.
And the silhouettes - marvellous. You could also just put a roll of contact paper across a wall & then adhere other pix onto it with tape. They do have some nice patterns - & you can even score them at the 99 Cent store & other bargain outlets.

  • naomi (guest) wrote on May 21, 6:44 pm

OMG!!! I have been doing that DIY decal stuff at my job for months now ( I'm a pre school teacher, the decals change with the month) and for whatever reason, it never dawned on me to do the same thing in my apartment!!! Thanks for reminding me! :)

  • Claudia (guest) wrote on May 22, 7:03 pm

Thanks for this! Ive been looking for a way to add more color to my white walls!

But one thing that annoys me is where to get the contact paper. I live in sweden and contact paper doesnt come up in my dictionary so it would be really cool, for future episodes, if you can say where to buy the stuff youre using :)
I mean what do you normally use contact paper for? It would be really helpful, i really want to try this out!

    Thankyou very much :D

  • Claudia (guest) wrote in reply on May 22, 7:18 pm

Sorry forgot a question, would this only work on smooth surfaces?
My walls have this small lumps on and im sad this might not work :(

  • sewthernbelle wrote on May 24, 8:52 am

    That dog! Gah!

Meanwhile why didn't I think of this when I lived in a dorm? I even had contact paper handy! Oh well...

  • knitwench wrote on May 24, 5:03 pm

We did an entire tree with Contact paper. Wood grain for the trunk and branches, four greens for the leaves. I put a gold metallic sun with a smiley face in one corner and a silver metallic moon and stars over the beds. The kids cut white into clouds. Sorry no pictures avalible, this was in 1979!! Everything old is new again!

  • brit (guest) wrote on May 25, 8:54 am

I am in love with this idea!
My problem is that I've spent two days scouring my local hardware/big box/craft stores and still not found solid contact paper. (I've had several customer service employees look blankly at me: "What department would it be in?" ... if I knew that, I'd be looking there right now!)
Does anyone have suggestions on where to hunt for it at a physical location?

  • katalina wrote on May 28, 5:32 pm

    best diy yet!

  • Meg wrote on May 30, 1:20 pm

If you can't locate contact paper at your local hardware store, try online! Here are a few links:

Thanks for the great idea Meg. I watched the episode and thought. Wow, what a great idea, but I wouldn't need to do it. But then it got me thinking... And this is what I came up with! I'm excited to do more, too!

I LOVE the paper walls idea by Nienie Dialogues ! I like how she made the fans and put it all over the walls.

But where would you find those gorgeous colourful pieces of paper to fold?
