Awesome show guys. I'm glad to see Will more involved in this one, he did an awesome job on those shelves. Where do you recommend getting some of those nifty brackets?
Did you find studs to hang the shelves? That always seems to be my problem. Not necessarily hanging shelves, but anchoring them so they can hold heavy items. Help!
first love that your hubby did more then be a model.
he relly good at the diy thang.
im trying to find a way to display my old photos but i dont want to mess them up cuz they from the the early 1900s hellp mee
Oh cool, I'd love to see your old photographs. Find some old clothespins, and twine. Hang a line of twine up and attach your photos to it with the clothespins. The pins won't damage your pictures, and you can change them as often as you'd like.
Molly Bolts will hold even more weight and for REALLY heavy stuff toggle bolts. I have had better experience using toggle bolts than putting screws into the studs. Don't think this is important? A freind went to a funeral for a baby last week. The TV fell on him when the wall mounted shelf let go.
That is horrific. I won't put Gracie's bed anywhere near shelves JUST in case. And I don't put it under our armoir, for fear that someday it would break. Oh, that is just devastating.
Meg and Will: don't forget that if you're hanging in drywall and your shelves will be holding heavy stuff (like books or rocks, etc) you should find the studs first and space your shelves accordingly. Otherwise, you risk all your hard work and cool stuff coming screaming down off the wall! BTW, I totally admire your DVD storage radio. SO up my alley. Thanks again for a great show!
True true. I guess we thought that part was something most people knew, but we shouldn't shown that part. Thanks so much for mentioning it, my dear!
Great shelves on your part in the blog!
I wrote a blog entry on studs and anchors, you can read it here: http://www.threadbanger.com/decor-it-yourself/post/8824/locate-a-stud
Thanks for the ideas and questions everyone!
xo, Meg
I like the show! Kinda sad that I'll have to wait one whole more day then I used to.
Tomorrow I am moving into my dorm in college, its pretty exciting. My roommate's and my styles are very different; do you have any ideas on how we can work together on this?
Also, I am looking for easy curtains for the windows, but I can't find a design thats easy quick and fun.
Please help
Don't sweat your style-difference dilemma. See if you two can agree on some central colors for your room. You can each have your own style but with a color theme things will look tied-together, essential in such a tiny space! The easiest curtain ideas I've seen yet (and I love them) are from a previous BH&H issue.: curtain rings with clips. These go over your curtain rod and you can use a tapestry, sheet, large block of fabric, whatever, and clip it into the rings. Voila! Instant curtain, no sew, no commitment. Good luck!
Decor It Yourself is moving to WEDNESDAYS! So this week you have an extra day to work on your DIY project! This week, upon a flurry of forum requests, we tackle DIY shelves. With a few design details & up-grades you can make your shelving look fantastic. And you know all of those remote controls you have laying arond? Can you even find them when you need them? We have a viewer submission to shows us how to solve this problem for good.

You are filled with such hip design ideas Will & Meg. You blow my mind each week. Thank you for the episode!
I am going to make a picture ledge, that is genius! So are the brackets, I can't believe how good they look.
This show has style.
Why thank you! Cool name. I love Jesus and Mary Chain.
So many fantastic ideas! The contact paper, type drawer and picture ledge are all genius. Really nice work.
I can't wait til Wednesday!
What a difference those brackets make. The shelves look so cool.
And the remote control video was really helpful! I can never find mine either.
Great episode! Your shelves look amazing! And what a cute couple you are.
