Inspiration for your Backyard Overhaul

I just love this red patio lounge in Todos Santos in Baja was found in Apartment Therapy. This month is garden month over on AT, so head on over to find inspiration for YOUR patio/deckbackyard revamp. Take pictures before and after and send them to tips@threadbanger.com
They also feature this recycled and refreshing "canned" garden. I just LOVE how this family took old tomato sauce and coffee cans and reused them in such a creative way.

They just took off the labels, added a coat of blue spray paint, and..................

VOILA! They have a brand new, colorful garden. What is your outdoor inspiration? How are you re-purposing used objects to serve your plants? If you need some more ideas and inspiration, check back to Decor It Yourself's Earth Day Special where we take a glimpse into a Brooklyn backyard filled with recycled planters and accessories.

Many of the veggies and flowers we plant in our garden need a bit of protection from the weather and the bunnies while they get started. We use old milk jugs from the recycling bin create covers for them while they grow. Just cut the bottom off the jug, leaving one corner attached to make a "flap." Cover the plant with the jug, flap open. The flap can be covered with soil or a big rock to keep the cover from blowing away. Milk jugs and juice jugs can also be used for watering cans (punch a bunch of holes in the bottom) for light watering. Or, if you punch only a few holes, you can leave these next to heavy drinkers like tomatoes for deep watering. Just fill up the jug and walk away; the water will trickle in slowly and deeply.
This container garden was a lot of fun to make.

I have since moved to France, and this container garden sadly had to be taken apart. In the French countryside I have a completely different set of challenges - here are Flickr photos of the start of a garden on a clay parking lot in a meadow: http://flickr.com/photos/happy_sleepy/sets/72157605074500317/
