DIY Wall Decals - Decor It Yourself

You can also use liquid starch to attach fabric to the wall.  Cut the shape of fabric you want.  dip it in a bowl of liquid starch squeeze exess and smooth in place on your wall.  Use a credit card or something to smooth out all the bubbles.  Let dry.  You will be amazed!  It sticks and doesn't leave any makes on the wall.

This inspired me to paint my own silhouette of my husband and I on oval canvas. I used a white background and then added an aged white to the edges before I painted our silhouette.  We are going to hang them over our bed!

Sign Vinal also works great for this, its self adhesive and comes in tons of colors. You can buy it pretty cheap from places like signwarehouse.com

Great idea!  I just made my own 3 silhouettes for my kitchen wall! I used 2 tones of wood contact paper (cannot find black in my hood) turned out great, of course the one of the cat turned out best ;) I would love to share a photo with ya? How do I do that?

this was a great episode! i have just ONE little problem.

i am OBSESSED with wall decals. they're cute, and non permanent. and i'm always looking to make my home more art friendly and unique. but here's the thing: apartment living in arizona... we've got textured walls EVERYWHERE! and unless you have a smooth surface it's impossible to decal. how can i spruce up my walls if it's not a smooth surface?

So... I'm just NOW responding to this episode because I'm new to threadbangers and have been watching via my ipod. Anyway LOVE LOVE LOVE this quick and easy project. I can't wait to get started. My walls are so bare and i need to add some life! Question: where's the best place to buy contact paper... I've been searching all kinds of stores and can't find the colors I want/need. Anywhere online you would recommend?

I LOVE the paper walls idea by Nienie Dialogues ! I like how she made the fans and put it all over the walls.

But where would you find those gorgeous colourful pieces of paper to fold?

best diy yet!

I am in love with this idea! 
My problem is that I've spent two days scouring my local hardware/big box/craft stores and still not found solid contact paper. (I've had several customer service employees look blankly at me: "What department would it be in?" ... if I knew that, I'd be looking there right now!) 
Does anyone have suggestions on where to hunt for it at a physical location? 

We did an entire tree with Contact paper. Wood grain for the trunk and branches, four greens for the leaves. I put a gold metallic sun with a smiley face in one corner and a silver metallic moon and stars over the beds. The kids cut white into clouds. Sorry no pictures avalible, this was in 1979!! Everything old is new again!

That dog! Gah!  

Meanwhile why didn't I think of this when I lived in a dorm?  I even had contact paper handy!  Oh well...

But one thing that annoys me is where to get the contact paper. I live in sweden and contact paper doesnt come up in my dictionary so it would be really cool, for future episodes, if you can say where to buy the stuff youre using :)

OMG!!! I have been doing that DIY decal stuff at my job for months now ( I'm a pre school teacher, the decals change with the month) and for whatever reason, it never dawned on me to do the same thing in my apartment!!! Thanks for reminding me! :)

Great ideas - especially now that contact paper isn't as sticky as it was years ago - Love the branch!  Too bad my walls are covered with pix.
And the silhouettes - marvellous. You could also just put a roll of contact paper across a wall & then adhere other pix onto it with tape.  They do have some nice patterns - & you can even score them at the 99 Cent store & other bargain outlets.

This is so awesome!!! I am about to move into a gorgeous vintage building in the "art district" in my city and can't paint.  I already have so many ideas.  and I have to say I am so so so so so glad that there is a home version of threadbanger.  I love this!!! 

Woot!  I'm going to be working at a camp this summer, and last summer my walls were so dull!  This will be so awesome for decorating my ... bunk ... area.  XD

Love the episode!!!! This could also be a great gift idea for someone special - who doesn't want a cute little shadow of their beloved pet or could be a cute decorating concept idea for a baby room, so sweet.

oh wow, this is perfect! i was just about to go out and buy paint for my wall.. for a mural, but contact paper is such a good idea because i can just peel it off when i'm tired of it :D
