DIY Placemats- Decor It Yourself

Hello!!
Since we are making requests I would love you to tackle 
remotes! These are taking over my front room and with 
4 wee ones I am always taking them away..... to where??
A recycle is in order, a wall mounted or side of a shelf
way of dealing with these with out lining them up on the 
shelf as if they are art! With out spending!?!? 
I will be watching. (*^_^*)

I love the sweater she is wearing. Rob and Corinne should do a show on that. =]

I commented before but I forgot something.  Another idea would be to make reversible placemats!  Inside of the lining fabric, one could use another fashion fabric.  Then one could mix and match to their hearts content!

Good call, City Chick! great way to make a place mat work for more than one use. I like you kids using your "thinking caps". 

If you use batting in the middle of the place mats you can protect your table from hot plates. As a alternative you could also use a few layers of recycled flannel (can we say hello old bed sheets?).

My grandmother left me a GREAT diningroom table and chair set when she sold her house. It's where my family used to spend every Christmas and Thanksgiving and it means a lot to me to have it.... but it doesn't match my decor at all! Since you showed us how to reupholster chairs, could you show us how to sand, prime, and refinish furniture to match the decor of our homes? It would mean so much to me, and save me so much money to be able to do it myself.

I was thinking about the backboard for your bed. well, my step dad builds alot of stuff and i was thinking if you got a big piece of thin wood. sand it. paint it any color. put a design or leave it. and drill shelves in. drill it in the wall. its not alot of work, it just takes a little time. :] think about it. im doing the shelfs but not the board part.

If you want your edges to lie down smoothly you need to clip the seam allowence on the curved parts ot the seam. Also it is easier to close the turning opening if you leave it on a straight part of the seam, if possible. These are easy to make reversible, just use nice fabric on both sides. Fusible interfacing, stiff with one or both sides fusible also helps the look and the durablity factor.

Can't get enough your show.   You've have such great ideas.   
 Any suggestions for tableclothes?   And where's the pooch?

you have a lot of great ideas. i was thinking about shower curtains, you should show how to make a fabric shower curtain (the kind that hotels use). when it's dirty, you just wash it instead of throwing it out.  

The episode looks great! I am so psyched about these placemats! I wish I had a table to put my own on!!!

Since your placemet were circular, shouldn't the seams have been clipped before you flipped it inside out so it would lie flatter?

If you iron your seams flat on the mats before you top stitch, they'll lay flatter on the table.

YOU READ MY MIND! I just bought a new plate set and wanted to make some kickass placemats. Awesome! But I wonder what those placemats would look like with some home made piping around the edges..

Meg, I love your show!  Tuesdays are my fave!  These placemats would be a great project for all of those vintage linen tablecloths you can find at thrift stores and flea markets.  The tablecloths usually come with lots of coffee stains, but you can lay your pattern out where you'll miss them and cut them out.  I'm thinking cloth napkins (no paper waste!) to match.  Thanks for the brilliant idea.

Place-mats never get enough props. Thanks Meg, for reminding us that place-mats rock.  Combining ideas....what if you did place mats out of an old shower curtain? Do you think that would work?
