I used the corks at my own wedding, but rather than place settings I used them for the table numbers. Using left over hand made paper from our invitations and some left over card stock from our rehearsal invites, I printed table numbers on the stock then glued it too the paper so it acted like a frame for the number. On the back, using the same card stock, I printed up a note to our guests. The hubs and I weren't into the tapping of glasses or ringing of bells to make us kiss so we came up with a cute way for our guests to get that desired outcome without the annoying noise. It was a cute little rhyme - No tinkling on glasses or ringing of bells, if you want to see the Bride & groom kiss take a hint from The Princess Bride and get your table to say "As You Wish". It was a huge hit with the guests and they had no trouble at all mustering the voices of all at the table. But I digress. Once I had glued the table number to one side and the kiss note to the other I used a small key ring, inserted it into the cut on the top of the cork and slipped the table numbers into the ring. For added stability I glued one washer to the base of the cork. This added some weight and a flat surface to the base of the cork so it wouldn't fall over. For place setting I printed individual menus on vellum with each guests name at the top and slipped them into the napkins. The colors for my wedding were lavender and sea foam green, so for the veggie meals the menus were green and the meat meals they were purple. I had many more DIY items at my wedding and I can't wait to see what else you guys come up with.
Thanks so much. I really tried to make it special and very "us", I even wrote an original ceremony becuase the traditional stuff just didn't fit. There were a million little things I did, it's hard to remember them all now. => I was planning my wedding and then quickly threw together my friend's wedding just 4 weeks before mine so all the things I did for each one kind of blurred. =>

Katzilla, we thought about not doing place settings too, but the overwhelming preference from guests was to know where they are sitting etc.. We were lucky enough to have Meg do the dove place cards for our wedding a few weeks ago and it was a perfect, natural element of our backyard reception. Everyone really liked them...and knowing where to go. Meg, great job-- love the episode topic!! I would definitely recommend a DIY Wedding part 2 (maybe centerpieces...)!
Yeah, trust me, guests really want to know where they are sitting. Designating tables makes your friends and family know you thought of them, you prepared for a comfortable and enjoyable experience. Remember how much it sucked to not know where you were sitting at the cafeteria? It's a similar feeling, and guests prefer to have some guidance.

I loved the idea of using cardstock paper to make paper doves.. Where can I get cardstock paper? Is it possible to get it for free or used rather than buying it from a store?
Try a print shop for odd sized scrap paper. Look for a non profit "Arts and Scraps" near where you live.

Aww, place settings? ): Who does place settings anymore? I'm letting my guests sit wherever they like... More DIY Wedding stuff please! My wedding is in a year, I need help!!
So glad you're back! I'm getting married this summer as well and I'm going totally DIY. I made a cupcake tower from terra cotta flower pots and water trays. I also made tote bags as presents for my bridesmaids. Also ... love the poster from Etsy seller Unlesssomeonelike you in the video! We ordered a custom poster from her as well.
Yeah!!! I always get so excited about this show!!! love the dove name cards, it was so simple yet so perfect. keep this show coming!!! I need my fix!!!
Nifty ideas! My new husband and I made most everything for our wedding last month. It turned out far better than expected, and we got a lot of compliments on the decorations and such. It helped that I took floral design courses in high school. XD
So glad to see you on screen again! There should be much more of Decor It Yourself. Love the birds and tree--that could really be translated for other kinds of parties as well.
Oh my goodness, what cool ideas. I love the doves, the corks, pine cones. So elegant. i wish Meg would do MY wedding some day...

Oh, WOW... thank you SO much for that anniversary wish! On our 4th anniversary I was in the USA preparing my most wonderful American friend Amy's wedding with a bunch of hand-made decorations. My own wedding 4 years ago, too, was very DIY and i LOVED it! Thanks again, WHAT a surprise!!! I love you Chad, you know how obsessed I am with "Decor it yourself"!
You are so very welcome Julia! It took a very sweet, thoughtful and sneaky husband to make it happen. It was all his idea. You chose a keeper. Here's to many more years!
xo, Meg
