i have a rescue cat his name is bob . we are going to be sellabrating 2 years together at the end of the month . he was found in a plastic bag by some bins with most of his fur shaved off and he was really mall nurished he was scared of everything and whould hide all day now he is a fluffy , chubby cat who addores houres of attanchon this is me and bob

All of our cats are rescuees of some sort, 1 from an animal shelter (he had a close couple bruches with death) Ironically we went the the shelter for a dog. one cat adopted us- the neighborhood stray, 2 had been orphaned (1 a tornado took her mommy and the other an abandoned stray), and the last was a poor kitty that was left for dead by her mother cat we found her while on vacation.

my lovely dog sadie was rescued from the ASPCA 2 years ago, we were very lucky to find her she is sweet and loveable. she is also the 3rd dog we have rescued and it is an awesome feeling giving a dog a second chance.

my dog ruby is a rescued dog from a friend who found her she was abandoned because she was scared of thunder and the owners needed her for hunting so the gave up on her but i love her!!!! she is adorable! i am soo happy she is with us.

all of our pets have come from rescue shelters or were abandoned. our first dog was abused so badly by her old owner she would pee all over the floor. its so sad to see an animal suffer, even when they are in a safe place. they will never get over it, she was scared all of her life and it is part of why we had to put her down. getting a rescue pet is the best choice when you want a dog, cat, or whatever. they turn out to be your best friends no mater how you look, all they want is love from you.

its so nice to see threadbanger is encorperating diy for pets and animales i have two cats and two dogs plus a rabbit that have all been rescued from no kill selters and people not wanting them its so nice to learn new tips on how to make things to not only save money but to have fun making and creating future episodes on more pet related topics are welcome! it warms my heart to hear and know the stories of these animales its an added bonus when rescueing

I got 4 of my cats from shelters and two from someone who could not keep them. I also have a dog from a shelter and another dog that we got from a reliable breeder. I totally believe in no kill shelters and organizations but after working at a city run animal shelter I have come to realize what a bad wrap they get. Although they tend to put a high number of animals down they are simply doing the best with what they have. These type of shelters do not have the resources that others may have to help all the animals get adopted.

when i was little we adopted Jahrah he so an awsome dog he was a red kelpy cross....but he is long gone now :( and now we arnt aloud anymore pets...plus my aunt resqued a big malamu (esimo dog ) he was abused and they doced his tail so short they took some of his spine but he is soo well looked after now and loves everyone. great episode but u need more cats :)

Rescue Animals are the way to go! We've adopted 3 rescue cats from our local no-kill shelter. The people are great and the animals are great. They seem so grateful when you take them home.

So glad you did an episode on this, Meg! And to those of you who can't adopt a shelter animal, please consider signing up to volunteer to walk the shelter dogs or just give a little love to the cats. Usually, it's very flexible.

My husband and I have many adopted pets, from the Humane Society, the dog pound and from people who didn't want their animals anymore. I wish I had the money to open a no kill shelter...I would do it in a heartbeat! Ann

Love that decor-it is back on. We rescued our dog Sadie when she was 8 months old. She didn't know how to play, jump, snuggle or be happy. I think she had spent the 1st 8 months caged without human contact and certainly without love. 5 years later she is the happiest doggy ever and the best companion while I am doing anything from crafting inside to gardening outside. If you want a pet I would definately recommend adopting one of these bundles of love, the rewards are so great. Milo and Gracie are lucky doggies indeed.

Awww, Meg! The new pup is too cute. Milo, and Gracie, are so lucky to have such great owners. Thanks for showcasing the topic of adoption. I did a little project last semester for a media class and was shocked to learn that last year, in a medium semi-rural town of 30,000, we had more than 5,000 dogs and cats euthanized. This doesn't need to happen. For those not in the know, the Humane Society is around to provide financial assistance for pet owners to get their four-legged friends fixed. Overpopulation due to negligence is a HUGE problem, so spread the word. On a more personal note, adopting my border collie/akita mix two years ago was one of the most rewarding things I've done. Ruby is probably the most affectionate dog ever. Nothing like having a crappy day at work (in a cubicle farm) and to come home to that wagging tail. At least someone is always happy to see me walk through the door.. Dogs are creatures that love their humans more than themselves. Kuddos to you guys.

Hey meg, I adopted my new pet kitten from the RSPCA, just the day before this episode came out here in Australia! His name is Felix and he's a 7 month old, grey tabby. He's already house trained and is super adorable. He's a tad traumatized from being a newborn kitty in the middle of the devastating Kinglake bush-fires, but he's already settling in to our home wonderfully - give him a week or so and I'm sure my budgie wont even freak him anymore! Love the episode!

I have two rescue cats, both from the same litter. They were born just before the Katrina hurricane, and were fostered in a similar program for cats in northern VA called Animal Allies. It's a great program, and an excellent way to do some good and to find a pet that works well with your family.

I am a life-long dog lover but the best dog I have ever owned is my current rescue pekingese, Sushi (see profile pic of him as Capt. Jack Sparrow!). I saved him from the local pound and have had him for over 3 years. He has the best personality, is the most gentle and has the most patience of any dog I've ever had. He is simply the BEST! I can't recommend rescue dogs enough!

This is awesome! I always adopt animals from shelters, and I have been keeping my eyes peeled on getting a cat from one. I would have one now if shelters didn't charge so much money to adopt one. I think this is the issue for many people.

Ever since I found threadbanger, I've had a special fondness for Gracie (not only because she's adorable!) because she looks sooooo similar to our rescue dog, Little. It's hilarious because we've also got two beagles. Anyway, congrats on the new addition, and awesome episode. We'll be making these tomorrow!

We adopted our dog from the pound 6 years ago. Phil has become an important part of our family. He had been abused, was scared of his shadow, he had heartworms and was underweight when we brought him home. The shelter offered to take him back and put him down, but we kept him. We have spent a lot of money on making him well, but it's all worth it. Phil is my daughter's best friend and that is worth all the money in the world.

We rescued my dog, Troy, two days before they were going to put him down. We know he has been abused because he has a bump in his tail like the bone was broken there. We are so happy about having him and he even helps my mom with her chemical depression that came from an accident that she was in a few years ago. :) Yay Troy!

we rescued our (late) dog Peaches...from the wilderness! My mother found her and her brother when they were little puppies in a shed next door. Her mother was a border collie, and her father was a Coyote. Unfortunately her mother got hit and killed :( so she had no one to take care of her. So, we took her in. The vet told us not to keep her because she was half wild, but she was the BEST dog in the world to me, and my BEST friend. Two years after her passing, i'm still glad i got to share 16 years with a friend like her!

uhhhhh i love milow! he is soo cute!! (gracie too^^) we also have two dogs. cola, the older one, was two years when we got suse. we found suse on a beach at greece with big wonds in her chest, that looked like from a car crash. but now she has her own home since 5 years at ours. she feels better again and has just little hairless spotts in her hair left, and she is the funiest craziest part in our house. it is so nice from you to adope milow and give gracie a new friend! your pet needs you julia

I've always wanted a great dane, but my grandmother (who visits us often) is allergic to dogs. But once I move out of the house, I intend to adopt one from the local animal shelter. Thanks for the doggy treat recipe!

LOVE the episode! My little guy isn't a rescue pup, but I love him all the same... It was hard for me to even get the foot in the door when I tried the rescue organizations out here in Los Angeles, most people I know end up adopting from the city pound instead of rescue groups. I'm glad to see that there are rescue groups that actually place great pets with great people! Congrats on the new addition Meg!

When I am in a home that I can support pets in, I plan to look to rescue shelters. My dad's dog was rescued and he's just the most lovable guy ever, he's so happy to just be around you! I someday hope to have at least a dog and a cat and if I don't find them in a shelter, the only other option for me really is if someone's pet has a litter unexpectedly.

I have 2 rescue dogs. Jack and Jake. They are both pure breed Jack Russells. I found both on Petfinder.com- a great place to start looking for your next furry friend!

I LOVE this episode! I haven't rescued a pet from a shelter, but all three of our cats are rescue. My mom found two of them, Bo and Sissy, out in the woods without a mother. They were so skinny and pitiful looking ... how could you not love them? The third cat, Max, got stuck in our neighbors van. We rescued him and doctored him up. He, too, was so skinny and sickly. Now they're all fat and happy and absolutely spoiled rotten. I love them!

I am seriously thinking about adopting a pet but scared for our little one at home. We have a 5 lb yorkie who we got from a great breeder and typically the smaller breeds are scooped up before we even have a chance. Also I noticed that a lot of the adoption shelters here expect someone to be home during the day to be with the pet....and that is just not reasonable at our house....we both have to work. I am still contemplating it though....or back to the breeder we Go. Little Gizzy is longing for a brother or sister as a companion.

All of our pets, two dog and three cat, are rescues. My son even has a rescue turtle! However, my husband has threatened to leave if any more animals are brought home, which is ironic cause he brought home the last animal! Kind of hard not to rescue them when you work at a veterinary clinic. Another great place to look for pets to rescue. Sometimes people want to put their pets down for something as stupid as urinating outside the litter box when all that is wrong is a urinary infection.

meg this was such a GrEaT episode!!! seriously, every week i look SO forward to your posts. we adopted a puppy four years ago who was left with us at a concert in bad shape....needless to say he, pablo, has changed our lives for the better. he's pretty wild, but he has helped my man and i grow more patient and understanding.....our older dog enjoys having a little brother. the four of us have some serious pack mentality goin' on. hugs!!

Ahh! Meg I'm so happy you adopted a beagle. I rescued a beagle of my own from Toronto and I love hearing when other people do the same. It's important to take on rescue dogs, but beagles especially. It wasn't untill after I had Clooney (Yes, named after George Clooney... not my choice xD ) that I learned it's really important beagles go to safe homes. They're the most sought after breed for "practice dogs" when people are in the dog fighting business. They put up a good fight, but ultimately have no chance, which is heartbreaking to think about. So again, definitely a good choice :] They're such wonderful dogs.

I've rescued two dogs in my life: Tobey's my rescue Doxie/Sheltie mix. I adopted him my sr. year of high school and love him so much. About a year ago, my hubby and I adopted a lab/Dane mix. We had him for two weeks before he started showing signs of aggression towards Tobey. He bit me, drawing blood, and hubby and I had to make the heart wrenching decision of taking him back to the shelter. As sad as this may sound, it ended up being a good thing, taking him back because 1) he went to a good home where he was the only dog (we called the shelter and checked up on him) and 2) I got pregnant, like, right after that.

Aww cute! Two of our chihuahuas are rescue pups and the other one is their baby so I'm all for giving a good dog a good home!

Our greyhound, Gizmo, was a racer. We adopted him from Friends of Greyhounds in South Florida. We love him, but he's kind of crazy. I wish I could have pets so I could adopt a little dog, but I can't find any apartment complexes near my university that allow anything besides fish. As soon as I get my own house, I'm rescuing as many as I can handle!

Our Cairn Terrier was a 7 month old pound bound pooch when we found her at a local pet shop (pet shops do NOT keep puppies & kittens forever, once the cute factor is gone it's "b'bye baby"). 3 of our cats are from a rescued stray who promptly delivered 5 little furballs under my bed. Brings whole new meaning to "dust bunnies", doesn't it? It's been almost a year since then and boy have they grown, but we couldn't part with them. We may have rescued them ... but they rescue us right back! Love this episode, Meg, please keep up the great work.

Awww!!! I love this puppy episode! I love puppys! Milo looks like my Patches...may he rest in peace. He is no longer with us. Snif. But I will definately make my next dog a rescue dog. I just need to be able to afford proper puppy health care first. And yes I call all dogs puppies. So sue me.

Oh my goodness! Why are those pups so cute! oh boy i want to give them a million hugs and make sure that no one ever hurts their little puppy butts again! I LOVE PUPSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My dog Becky was a rescue. She is a pit bull/lab mutt. She was abandoned with her two siblings by the barn where I used to ride at. One day some guy came driving up with two chocolate puppies and a black one. He found them on the side of the road eating whatever they could find (ex. roadkill, horse feces, etc.). So he came by the barn to see if anyone wanted one. My dad was the only one of our family there, but he decided he was going to take one home. We had never had a dog before, so we were all excited about it. It was a surprise for us. We really wanted a chocolate one, but one of them had a serious bite on his nose and another person took the other, so we were stuck with the black one, not that we minded. She is the best dog we could ever have. She knows her boundaries in the yard (we don't have a fenced in yard), she scratches at the door when she has to go potty, she sits, lies down, comes, etc. If we tell her she is begging, she goes in the next room. I highly suggest getting a rescued dog. They are better, in my opinion, to purebred dogs. Because honestly, people don't realize that half purebreds are inbred and have serious medical problems. Like in a great danes case, they have horrible hip problems and joint problems. Or a pugs case, horrible nasal and respiratory problems. And also, there are SOOOO many abandoned dogs that half of them are euthanized or killed by other means (beaten, hit by cares, neglect, etc). Also, there are other pets that need rescuing. Such as rats, bunnies, guinea pigs, etc. Just think about that next time you go looking for another pet. By the way Meg, Milo and Gracie are about the cutest things ever! They look like a whoot to have around the house and a bit spoiled. Loved this episode and I hope you guys make more pet related episodes too!

I didn't mention him in the episode, but we also have a rescued bunny, Linus Clyde. When he was a baby, he was found in a frozen over garden in Soho, left by someone. So, of course, I adopted him!

All of my pets (except my fish) have been rescue. They are wonderful animals, who give lots of love. People who think that something is wrong with rescue animals don't know what they're missing!

We'll have had Mykale Roo for a year now. He was an abused Kelpie my family adopted from the SPCA. He fits in very well with my strange family... he watches baseball games with my dad and walks to the family business with me. He has many fans here in town. He is the third dog for my family, after our 20 year old rat-terrier, Patches and our loved 15 year old mutt, Rachel... Happy fourth birthday Myk-A-Roo.

Adopting animals from shelters is a great option for people looking for a new pet. We got our Border Collie from our local shelter a few years ago. She was actually from the other side of our state, found wandering around half starved and the people at the pound she first went to think she was abused. She stayed in the first pound for the maximum amount of time , and was suppossed to be put down, but they thought she was too sweet of a dog and sent her to my town's pound and she only had a few days left before she'd HAVE to be put down when we found and adopted her. We also have two cats who we adopted as kittens who were feral and lived behind my dad's restaurant when their mom was hit by a car and their dad took off. We were able to find homes for all the kittens that were orphaned and even buried the mother.

We didn't adopt my dog from a rescue shelter- we got him from a breeder, but it was a rescue. the breeder had 16 dogs, one she favoured like no other. She would set out one bowl of food for the favorite and one for all the other dogs to share. Monty was the smallest, at 4.5 pounds he was a pound and a half under breed weight- a LOT in small dog terms. when we got him he hoarded his food and was not used to attention at all. the vet said if he had to keep fighting for his food (and losing because of his size) he would've been dead within the month. now he's healthy and totally spoiled :)

Wow im the 1st? to comment? Well ive been thinking about adopting a dog not just because i love them but my cats lonely and he was raised by a dog. (imoved dog was my sisters) I am ready to move on from the loss of my best friend nearly 5 years ago. I would love to bake some dog treats for my own special friend =)

Oh thank you so much for talking about rescue animals! We have a cat saved from going to a shelter, another rescue cat, and a rescue dog. In addition to supporting our local no-euthanize shelter, we also make pet beds for them out of old t-shirts. Hooray for rescue animals! They rule!

My boyfriend and I have 5 rescue pets between us: 3 cats and 2 dogs. 2 cats came from one of those crazy shelters you here about that has hundreds of cats and is filthy; 1 cat was found wandering around an apartment complex; 1 dog was mistreated by a previous owner; and the other dog had been chained in a barn for most of her life. All of them are very happy in our home now and it's worth it to see their smiling faces and have them love on me, especially considering their crazy backgrounds. Go adoption! :)

I have two cats that I rescued when I moved out on my own. Both came with medical problems and my little boy Zak had been starved at one point before I adopted him. Both my babies are now healthy, happy, and have taken over the house. Awesome video! I plan on making those treats for my friend's dog.

We didn't adopt a rescue dog buy my husband brought home a stray a few days ago and I made her a HUGE pet bed. She's an enormous black lab and she's beautiful. She's well behaved and we love her.
