I made clear soap with six-sided dice in them.  They went over great for Christmas.  It was relatively inexpensive too.

wow, i loved this video.. It helped me a lot, So i was wondering a couple of things. Where do we buy those soap blocks? And the natural type of soaps, are they made out of those blocks? and then just add in the herbs and such?? If someone could email me and let me know i would appriciate it a lot. I did soap crafting a few yrs ago for friends kids for small gifts I spelled out their names with alphabet pony beads floating in the clear glycerin...was  very cute
you can also make mini soaps (for the guest sink) with ice cube trays oh the possibilities...thanks for helping me remember this fun craft!!

This is cute, but I really doubt I will be making soap any time soon. Anywho, I was wondering if you could do an episode how to turn your bedroom into a [cheap] crafting temple. I've really been getting into sewing lately, but alas have no place to craft except for my bedroom, but it's a mess and I don't know where to start for making it more craft friendly.

not to worry meg and bobbie, there are always negative people out there.  rather than complain, they could ask for an article regarding what it is they hoped for...  making fat/lye soap for example.  it's a rather difficult craft that would not even interest many people.  barring that, they could goog|e it and go complain about those articles instead.  the rest of us loved this video.  i can't help but wonder if you could make the clear soap, adding one scent, adding hard cubes of the opaque to float inside it.  maybe have those cubes scented a complimentary scent.  eg. lavendar soap with rose scented cubes inside it.

Hmm, a nice video, but not exactly what I was expecting or even anything new. Soap crafting is pretty basic and no brainer. I was expecting more soap making along the lines of things with lye and such, with end products like shea butter and almond oil soaps.

Bobbie states that to avoid air bubbles pour slowly. However, if you notice that the top layer has a foamy bubble quality to it, all you have to do is fill a spray bottle with rubbing alcohol and give a light spritz. Bubbles banished.

This is "soap crafting" not "soap making". That involves a fat and lye and a chemical process called soaponification. You can melt down your soap slivers from the bathroom and do the same thing. People were doing that  75 years ago.

Meg, since you recently did some back to school dorm DIY, some of us are recent empty nesters.  I've now got an extra bedroom to convert to an office/crafting room, on very limited budget, got any ideas?

The color idea is neat in that you can match the colors for in the bathroom.  Being ours is a sea/ocean/water theme thinking of adding a shell in the middle of one. (Couldn't do the colors you guys did cause it reminds me of ice cream:  my kid would want to eat it?)  I like the idea of adding oils to the soap. I'm going to try to make some with mint /peppermint if I can find all the supplies & time. Thanks for sharing!

vary cool i never thought of adding coffee to it is you put coffee grounds in it instead if it would be a better exfoliant i sounds like it would be like a light sand paper

I found clear and solid glycerin at Pearl Art & Craft Supplies in the city, and you can find it at your local craft store. What's so fun about Bobbie, is she can take an idea like making your own soap and infuse it with her personality. Like adding those colorful beads or coffee beans to the soap. My kind of gal!

Meg should step it up a little and try her hand at doing DIY Halloween decor. At the same time making it eco friendly.

I was disappointed with this episode.  Any soccer mom with a JoAnn's Mastercard can create crap like this.  Where's the edgy?  Where's the up-cycling?  I originally came to ThreadBanger looking for creative ways to live my normally boring life.  But now it seems that I'm disillusioned.  Also, is everyone in New York as vapid as Bobbie Thomas?

I've made soap moulds before... it took MANY attemepts before it came out well. Make sure you buy the right type of gycerine!! That's the best tip! I lightly sprayed a cupcake tin with pam and the soaps come out easily after. I put little prizes, like charms and mini nailpolishes in the soaps and gave them as christmas gifts to all my friends, wrapped in a washcoth for an extra touch ;D LOVE the idea of putting coffee beans in the soap, I'll try that one next time for sure. You can buy Glycerin online and at any natural foods store, and also try specialty shops that have materials for soap and candle making. try Whole Foods or if your in northern Cali the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-Op
