Silver Retro Christmas Tree, Decor it Yourself

I use my Bonzi tree, i went to the craft store and got the tiny present ornaments for a dollar and put them on the tree

My house has no room for a large tree, and I don't have a lot of table space to put up a small tree. My plan for this year was to make a 6 foot long quilted Christmas tree wall hanging. I haven't started it yet since my goal was to only give gifts handmade by me this year (what a chore!). So the plan now is to start the Christmas tree wall hanging AFTER this Christmas in the hopes it will be ready for next year.

I absolutely loved it!! But I have a tree already (not a real one though). It's funny how we like to adopt northern traditions over here in the southern hemisphere. We decorate christmas trees when we are having 90º outside...and don't let me start talking about all those poor men working as santas wearing the "traditional-north-pole suit". Well, maybe it's a good way to burn up that extra holiday weight, who knows. Great job Meg!

A few years ago I used a Rosemary bush and dexorated it with vintage earrings and necklaces, it was very pretty

oh! I found the best garland at the store -it has little stars in it and super-fine, puffy 'normal' tinsels too. It's so super cute for this project. There were also other fun garlands to use for this project, it could basically be any color, with lots of design options. I made mine already, and it was as easy as she makes it look. Thanks for posting such a cute idea! **I made a fun tree-skirt for mine too. I cut a circle out of white felt about 2 1/2 or 3 feet in diameter, and scallped the edge. Then I found the center and cut a small hole and also cut a straight line from the center hole to the outside (you could sew buttons and loops to close this up, or just put the opening toward the back and hide it with gifts). Then I used sequins to edge the scallops, and a orniment/pine needle patter I found online.

Love the potted tree idea. So good. I am not a very Christmassy person. I don't like a lot of the traditional decorations so I really disliked the holiday for several years (I also hate snow). It's just not my style. But, I am learning to be more positive and see that it's not JUST Christmas, it's a time of togetherness to get through the cold months. So if I have time this year, I want to jazz up my place in a "winter solstice" kind of way. For a tree, I want to find a nice fallen branch, cut it to size and stick it in a tree stand, then paint it all white. I'd pick one or two colours and put a few pretty ornaments on. I wish I could find a photo online of something similar...

... wait, what? You're trying to be green by buying tinsel?! That stuff is, you know, not exactly enviromnent-friendly. In fact, here in Europe people are told not to buy it for that reason. Even if you use it over several years - that tree isn't anywhere near green! Why don't you go into more detail about the potted trees? Where to get them, how to keep them small so they fit into your room again the next year? I mean, seriously. That tutorial has nothing to do with going green.

My family always goes to my grandmother's for christmas so instead of buying a tree we use a two foot fake one every year and stack out presents under that until be pack them up to go to grandma's.

I love this silver tree!!!! It is so festive and fun. Some time ago, my best friend and I looked forward to making cute ornaments for our christmas trees. Wish we'd had directions for this tree then!

I know I'm dating myself here, but we had a HUGE silver tree in our living room decorated with pink/rose ornaments every Christmas when I was little. I loved that tree. Thanks to you, it looks like I'll soon have another one. BTW, where I come from that's called silver garland when it's on the string .... it doesn't become tinsel until you secure it to the wire. Another awesome idea is to use your scrap fabrics and old clothes you've been saving all year to wrap up the tree and it's something you could even possible leave up all year as art! I'm totally making one out of old christmas sweaters!

I like the idea of a rosmary bush! I green up my tree by buy vintage ornaments instead of buying new ones. The one I have this year is Scrooge holding a candle and a scroll, when you pull the string at the bottom both his legs and arms fly up, so much cooler then anything at Walmart!
