Are you feeling green-guilt for thinking about buying a Christmas tree this year? Or are you just too broke like the rest of us to fork over the dough? Well, Re-Nest has some great tree- alternatives that might inspire a new, creative idea to replace our old tenenbaums. Items like an antique drying rack, step-ladder or house plant can be easily transformed into a re-purposed tree to put your handmade presents under.

I love the idea of an alternative tree! I'm going to look around here and see what I can find. Anybody can set up a regular tree, but an alternative really makes you think creatively. Thanks for the idea!

Isn't buying a tree from a tree farm considered eco-friendly? After all they have to plant a tree for every one they sell and lots of good oxygen is created that way. And then you could turn the tree into mulch for your own garden when you take the tree down in July...;)

- Oh definitely. My parents support a local tree farm owned by a friend of the family, and I love that tradition. I just wanted to offer alternatives to those who couldn't or chose not too. If you DO buy a tree, just be sure to have it cut down for mulch. It at least extends the life of the tree. Happy Holidays!

I really like your ideas. I have in the past made my own tree from actual tree trimmings my husband trimmed from the trees at work. It was a great experience and we still got the fresh pine scent throughout. Thanks, Mista

- True, true. But with the Great Depression we are all engulfed in, some of us can't even afford that. The artificial trees I saw that looked half-way decent were around 0. NOT cool. So a ladder may have to cut the mustard this year.

- But we aren't in a depression, great or otherwise. We're only in a recession. On a more topic related note, though, you could also use branches from the ground if you live in a small space. I know I don't have room for a full on tree in my place. Just pick one or two and put them in a re-purposed vessel using stones or marbles or what have you to keep them upright.
