Very cool ideas.  Another way to spruce up your backyard is with a bright hammock.  You can accessorize with pillows and it's easy to store during the winter.  http://www.relaxinghammocks.com has some gorgeous arching hammock stands that really make a statement in the backyard.

Many of the veggies and flowers we plant in our garden need a bit of protection from the weather and the bunnies while they get started.  We use old milk jugs from the recycling bin create covers for them while they grow.  Just cut the bottom off the jug, leaving one corner attached to make a "flap."  Cover the plant with the jug, flap open.  The flap can be covered with soil or a big rock to keep the cover from blowing away.  Milk jugs and juice jugs can also be used for watering cans (punch a bunch of holes in the bottom) for light watering.  Or, if you punch only a few holes, you can leave these next to heavy drinkers like tomatoes for deep watering.  Just fill up the jug and walk away; the water will trickle in slowly and deeply.
