Halloween Costume Ideas, Pirate Costume, Halloweeny Wednesdays

hi ! I made a similar costume to this, using high-waisted shorts, the shirt you made here, the hat you made here with a red bandana underneath, i aslo curled my hair and bought a waistcoat from the op-shop to wear over the top. I also carried around with with a glass bottle, that i made a leather sling for, and i filled it with "rum" and stopped it with a cork. I took swigs all through the night :) Eye patches look cool with this outfit too !

Yay!  The shirt was sooooo easy.  I made the shirt out of an old men's button up and it turned out so cute.  The only thing I did differently is I simply turned in the cuffs to give a poufy LONG sleeve version.  Still debating on ribbon color. It has purple ribbon right now, but I think it's a little too school-girl-ish for my taste.  I will try gold ribbon tonight.

I'm going to use the corset for  the upper part of my 8th grade ball dress : )

Then I'm going to get a tutu for the bottom, well if It turns out nice that is : )

This is so amazing!  A costume at a store costs about  and up!  I'm sure everyone has these supplies lying around in their closet.  I'd rather spend a couple hours than + any day!

Plus I have some good black fabric laying around that would be a good alternative to the leather.
All I need to buy is some fishnets and a slip.

I just happened to stumble across the link to this video.  I'd never heard of Corinne but she kicks serious butt!!  I'm an accomplished seamstress and just finished a pirate costume myself but her ideas are awesome and easy enough for anyone.  Go girl!

If I wasn't lazy I'd make one of these, but... What could I use instead of leather? My mom basically got me into being anti-fur and leather when I was like, 3, and even though it's used already it just wouldn't feel right to use it.

That is so cool.  Perfect recycling.  Just what I was saying to my husband the other day - no one makes their own costume anymore -- I'm glad to see it.  We had to make ours when we were kids.

I wouldn't make this costume, but it gave me some great ideas.  Great job!

Also, if you really want to use matching thread instead of dental floss, millinery shops have blocks of wax they run the thread across before sewing.  A bees wax candle might be good for that because it's so soft.

I think that was uber cute...i think if you took the hat and scarf off...it would just be something cute for a girl to wear.
