all I have to say is: I love this site.

  • Needle_Threader wrote on October 17, 3:45 pm

    Wow that was awesome!
That corset idea was really great, it would look good on other things :)

  • Maurice wrote on October 17, 4:00 pm

I think that was uber cute...i think if you took the hat and scarf off...it would just be something cute for a girl to wear.

  • kn1pl1 (anon) wrote on October 17, 4:51 pm

I wouldn't make this costume, but it gave me some great ideas. Great job!

Also, if you really want to use matching thread instead of dental floss, millinery shops have blocks of wax they run the thread across before sewing. A bees wax candle might be good for that because it's so soft.

  • CaptainNeedles wrote on October 17, 5:19 pm

This is an awesome costume. I may already have a hat, but this is a great tutorial for making more! Everyone needs a leather tricorn! Thanks Corrine!

  • barb wrote on October 17, 5:52 pm

fantastic - I really love this site - i have been sewing for many years and have never seen such a creative way to make costumes ...arrrrrrrrrh

  • Diana wrote on October 17, 10:29 pm

That is so cool. Perfect recycling. Just what I was saying to my husband the other day - no one makes their own costume anymore -- I'm glad to see it. We had to make ours when we were kids.

    Please
    -Ian

p.s. oh yeah. my school is totaly lame and needs a makeover. I live in Long Beach so itd be really fun to meat you guys.

  • Holly wrote on October 18, 8:30 pm

    It looks awesome. :D
If I wasn't lazy I'd make one of these, but... What could I use instead of leather? My mom basically got me into being anti-fur and leather when I was like, 3, and even though it's used already it just wouldn't feel right to use it.

  • Jaime wrote in reply on October 19, 10:41 am

Here's an idea... hit your local fabric store when they've got a sale going and pick up some black naugahide (I'm spelling it wrong! whee!) - it's got that same kind of solid structure, but it's entirely man made. Only problem is it has a white backing, but you could probably dye that or paint it somehow, and really it wouldn't matter on the corset - whatever was showing you could just magic-marker the crap out of. Happy sewing!

  • Holly wrote in reply on October 21, 4:30 pm

Thanks! I've been thinking about this for a few days and I've decided I really do wanna make one of these costumes. :D You've helped a lot.

  • Lord wrote on October 19, 10:42 am

Err... Wasn't this supposed to be a gender neutral costume?
But still if I was a girl I would make/wear it, so, once again, AWESOME! YARRRR!
