  • KristyLynn wrote on February 8, 3:23 pm

congrats dude on the Janome! :) and the corset was beautiful!

  • ruhi wrote on February 8, 3:27 pm

    i luv the boxers

  • knitwench wrote on February 8, 3:35 pm

After years of wenching I can tell you, you need to add boning (from the notions wall) to the front of a corset. Put it between the gromits (eyelets) and the front seam line. You wouldn't want to have a "wardrobe malfunction". Also, it is easier to close a turning space if you put it on a straight place in the seam and not at the coroner. Don't eat to many chocolates.

  • komirra wrote on February 8, 4:15 pm

    what is boning? newbie speaking

  • corinneleigh (anon) wrote on February 8, 4:25 pm

wiki of course has a really good explanation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bone_(corsetry)

here's a website that explains the different options pretty good: http://www.fabrics.net/boning.asp

you can also use old zip ties which i think is an awesome idea.

we were going to mention boning but we wanted to keep it more simple for the first go at it.

we'll have to do a follow up for how to install boning.

  • ladyjanewriter wrote on February 8, 3:44 pm

Great episode! Now I can do boxers, and figure out grommets.

YAY! A guy won the sewing machine. That's so cool.

  • komirra wrote on February 8, 4:12 pm

the corset pattern was mega cool. if i made that nobody at school would have one, especially if i used a funky pattern.

  • EmilyRamelle wrote on February 8, 4:16 pm

what kind of school do you go to?!?

  • komirra wrote on February 9, 9:42 am

a high school where almost nobody can think up their own fashion ideas. so that pretty much leaves a corset out of the equation.

  • EmilyRamelle wrote on February 12, 3:44 pm

    cool and rock on

  • EmilyRamelle wrote on February 8, 4:15 pm

    I love you,guys! Happy V-day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Rainshadow wrote on February 9, 2:08 pm

Really like what your doing, it really gives artist starting out in fashion the chance to see what going on and be apart off it....

  • sewthernbelle wrote on February 10, 5:04 pm

fashion week? Rock on! Please tell me you'll do a tutorial about how to knock off designer designs. That would be great especially for the newbies. Happy V-day or SAG day ya'll...whatever you celebrate!

  • deliciousbassist (anon) wrote on February 10, 11:39 pm

I was going to make some boxers for the guy, but I didn't wanna have to go out and buy that Simplicity 9958. Due to my procrastinatory (yes, now a word) nature, I may have to wait until his birthday, but now I'll have extra time to sneakily get those measurements and make a shorter, girlier pair for me!

  • tanyalou (anon) wrote on February 11, 1:16 am

alright, so with great anticipation, my husband and i watched the announcement of the janome sewing machine winner. much to our dismay, we didn't win it, but my daughter's clip from our video made the episode. it's the black and white video of the 4 year old saying, 'please give us the showing machine'. that was awesome. congrats to matthew for winning.

  • Alex_F wrote on February 11, 9:39 am

Great show! I love you guys, you have such fantastic ideas. I think it would be great if you did a how-to on dip-dyeing, since that seems to be 'trendy.' I've been wanting to do it for a while on something, but i don't know how! Keep making your fantastic show!

  • xcrystalizex wrote on February 11, 11:22 am

Great show! Althought it would be great if there were some episodes on stuff to make for pets!

  • Jess!e wrote on February 11, 5:24 pm

I liked the inside of the corset better than the plad by far.

  • David (anon) wrote on February 12, 6:00 pm

i just started watching your show and i watched the pilot episode>
well when he spray painted that shirt did he use spray paint and if he did wouldn't it rub off in the washer

  • maddy! wrote on February 13, 2:56 am

    you guys make me happy
I want to give you a big hug

  • Alyson_wonderland wrote on February 13, 12:33 pm

Boxers are AWESOME - though it's freezing in New England. Any chance you can provide us with some kind of tutorial for how to make some super cozy, WARM pajama bottoms out of something I have laying around?

  • lexmembrana wrote on February 13, 12:46 pm

OHH YES FINALLY A CORSET HOW-TO
AAAH I CAN'T EVEN PUT IN WORDS HOW EXCITED I AM ABOUT THIS...
AAAH Although I am a kind of Valentine's Grinch this has to be the best present ever!!!

  • MissMalaprop wrote on February 13, 7:16 pm

You know how much I love you guys. But really, I wish you would have referred to it as a "corset-style top" or something. In my opinion even those lace up things with plastic boning are still just corset style bustiers. A real, modern corset has steel boning. A corset shapes your waist..not just covers what's there but actually gives you a more defined waist. I think what you guys did is really cute, but just because it laces up does not a corset make. Sorry to be nitpicky but it's always been one of my pet peeves, and especially after working in a store that sells real, steel-boned corsets, it's frustrating to constantly explain the difference to people. (Also because of the price difference...real corsets are usually fairly pricey because there's a lot that goes into the construction. I know a trained seamstress/costumer/corset who doesn't even make them herself. I know that she CAN but she hates to because it's so time-consuming.)

  • Your Mantras wrote on February 13, 9:51 pm

You guys just reminded me how much you inspired me that first time I came across your wonderful show. Everytime I watch start itching to sew again! Thank you and 'Happy Valentines!'

  • Your Mantras wrote on February 13, 10:10 pm

Congrats Matthew! Happy Sewing. Great to see you've been inspired by these guys as many of us have. It seems like they have really made you find your purpose....and it is great to hear more guys sewing. Good work!

  • CzarWars wrote on February 14, 3:18 am

Rob you looked like Flava-Flav minus the giant clock around his neck, whats up w/ that? Oh and the scrolling messages on the bottom are VERY DISTRACTING!!! This is not CNN, if you're going to scroll anything, scroll tips that accompany the project you're working on, otherwise its an eyesore and a turn off to try and focus on an already complicated project but then to try and not focus on scrolling text...bad idea! Otherwise, you guys rock...see you in LA.

  • diyloverx10 wrote on March 22, 12:16 pm

im probably gonna do this corset (in red of course) and then im making it so that its like permantly laced in the front. and ill put a zipper in the back. im making it the top for my reniassance dress. but ima put the zipper in the back so i dont have to worry about anything coming undone while im at the fair.

  • pigglewiggins wrote on April 26, 10:36 pm

After watching this a lot and cutting out the pattern, I realized that you've added a side seam that isn't even mentioned in the tutorial. But you can clearly see it if you look at the way the plaid pattern connects.
My questions are: When you eliminate the side seam are you eliminating the bulk at the side that almost acts as boning? A seam is 4 fabric layers thick, not just two. If it's left out is the corset going to collapse at the sides of my waist? It's too late for me; as I already cut it out and didn't add extra seam allowances for side seams. Interestingly enough, the inner lining you used has no side seams. So I guess I will finish this one, and if it seems to lack support, I will add side seams to my next one. I'm also adding 4 boning channels to keep the girl's up.
