the fashion show was very punkie, which is not my style by the way. i thought the ruffles was a unique idea. and it is defiently not cool to wear a ton of fur.
cool ruffle vest.. btw.. i'm new here at threadbangers.com.. and i'm lovin' it.. btw.. i wish you guys can teach me on how to turn a crewneck shirt into a v-neck shirt.. because i want a v-neck shirt so badly.. but i'm kinda fat for those v-neck shirts store sells.. thank u so much in advance if you do dis for me.. love your show.. more good luck.. mwahugz..
A little slow in the beginning with the fashion shows, but that ruffle vest is so cool! I may have to make that for my girlfriend, another great episode threadheads, see you next week!
LOVE THE RUFFLES!!!! I want to try "cute"ing up some suspenders like that...
BTY: Watching the NY Couture show reminded me...I rented the Breakin' Trilogy online and they sent me the 3rd movie first, Beat Street (which I have never seen, no Detron or Special K). So inspirational! PLEASE note that a Old Skool Hip Hop Show should be done soon! (Block color sweaters, mismatch earrings, airbrushing, custom Pumas with the phat laces, etc. etc.) U2Rok!BD

It takes years of training as a Jedi Seamstress...my first piece of advice: ALWAYS read the entire list of instructions BEFORE you begin, and work it out/understand it, in your head as you are reading them. This way, you will "get" why you need to do "x" before "y" etc.
in a episode could you have someone teach us how to sketch our fashion and then you sew it making it come to life! or give us some tips on thrift store shopping! help us understand more about fashion, please! go DIY! YA!
Do you mean how to sketch in general, or what specifically? I sketch out my designs sometimes.. if Threadheads doesn't, maybe I can post a little tutorial on what I do (I'm not professional though).
I'm sorry but DIY does not mean tacky and that's how most of the looks on New York Couture looked. They looked like streetwalkers from head to toe. Just my honest opinion.
i have to agree. some of them look like street walkers. maybe you guys should stay away from the "tacky punk" or something fashion shows. not my fav epp
Awesome! And I know just the pants to use for that tutorial too...Thanks guys!
Now come on guys! I've heard a lot of smack against the runway shows here on the comments! Designers are just DIYers who get paid more. It's only when corporate and fashion editors gets a hold of the design does it turn into this vain selfish greedy thing.
ps...no designer in their right mind would use real fur in their designs. Not in our green society. I'm positive it was all faux. Meanwhile, there is limits on how much fur is too much. Pack of zebra people, too much...full lenght fur coat...maybe for your grandma. A little faux fur around the collar...just right.
The ruffle vest Corinne made is stunning. Beautiful work, girl. Love, love the version you did. Big collars, high necks- all good.
Sadly, fur is EVERYWHERE in the fashion world, and we need to put the message out there that it is unacceptable. Even faux fur is subtly communicating that it is okay to use animals as fashion. People seeing you do not know it is faux, so I say we make a statement by not using ANY fur. Faux or real, it is unacceptable, TACKY and uber-selfish. Truth.
I love this ruffle vest idea!
You know, there is a lot of interest and excitement in the "cosplay" area for anime and comics.
You guys should visit a convention! There are a ton of DIY outfits running amuck, and if you featured an easy tutorial about school girls, or something simple like Sailor Moon, you would have people blessing your very existance. Up for the challenge?
By the way, last weeks Corset tutorial is amazing!
I'm currently working on that project and I've always considered myself terrible at sewing! It's almost done and I am going to make more for friends! :]
This is officially my new favorite site. I love all you do and it is so inspiring!! I look at everything with new eyes now......"hmmmm how can I alter that?" Thanks!
Hey, Threadheads! I love the ruffle vest you did, but it would be hard for me to try sewing it without a machine. I might buy a new one, so I want to ask: Could you guys say which sewing machines are decent and cheap?
I am soooo inlove with the ruffle. I bellydance and would absolutely LOVE to make one of these and wear it during a performance... How wild would that be!
I just found this site thr IndyMogul.com. Wonderful, easy to read, decent enough layout, easy to navigate...I don't see a place for a general request (maybe the forum?).
How about...shoes? I have a patchwork of information collected about making shoes from my research.
I understand people use to have a costume wood mold of their foot made by travelling artisans (long ago). I seen self contain kits for shoes. I been to Pennsic War and seen vendors offering 'historical-ish' custome made suade shoes by using duct tape to make a pattern. I've seen the 'super sewing machines' designed for stiching leather tops to soles. I know companies like Goodyear ('down the street' from me) offer soles for shoes (other than tires). I seen foam rubber materials (used as prop weapons) that looks, feels and with weight similar to rubber soles.
How do I do it? Where do I start? I don't have +100.00 everytiem I need to replace my Doc Martins. Help me in finding resources so that I can make my very own custom "Professor Martin" boots.
How do I put it together? Stitching vs adhesives or a mix of the two? Advice on forcing leather needles thur thick leather or is that Too much effort for the result? Where can I find that 'ultra light weight' low density foam that's popular today in some running shoes? Where do I find that 'beige' rubber sole that seems popular on 'skater shoes' or Docs? What type of threading should I use in order to take the abuse (wet, salty, dry, hot, humid cleveland weather) of being part of a shoe?
I have access to:
leather needles
leather punch
split leather and suade (I and some friends are in the SCA...medieval intersts hobbiest)
thick leather 1/4... 'shoe grade' or 'armour grade' as some calls it.
artificial sinew fibers
What I like to use:
Low density soles or....
'beige' rubber soles or....
'sticky' rubber soles, in black (for best traction)
What I need to know:
Where can I get such materials listed above.
How do I mate the upper to the commercially bought soles.
Adheisive?
My "fasthions sense" (or lack of):
Basic black shoes...no one's freaking lable nor 'swooooosh'. I'm cool with buckles, silvers, hardware, etc. I just don't want some 'out of place' symbol on my shoes (the Doc logo is more of a stamped-in mark on the leather on some of their shoes, for those who never seen a pair.) that messes up the look.
Or..... How do I re-sole old shoes or boots with above mentioned materials when I don't have access to really heavy industrial sewing machines?

you just have to start making shoes. simple as that. I started a few months ago. Barge cement, leather needles and waxed linen thread are all you really need. use any material you like aslong as it is durable. alittle or alot of online research will help. but you just have to do it. you have all the right questions and you pretty much answered them yourself too. you sound like youve done enough research. so start playing with your resources. BTW the key search phrase is "shoe findings"

Love this episode, BIG FAN OF NEW YORK COUTURE!!!, so all you haters stop hatin' because your not as talented as Oscar de la Renta or any other fashion designer, they had to start somewhere t just like you did!
This week on Threadheads we take you to NY's Fashion week. The tents weren't really our scene but we felt right at home at New York Couture's Fashion Show and Party. Plus we grab a tutorial from Morgan Hungerford on how to recreate some fancy designer duds. Its time to get your ruffle on.
the fashion show was very punkie, which is not my style by the way. i thought the ruffles was a unique idea. and it is defiently not cool to wear a ton of fur.
Chyeah, the whole fur thing just sucks. I thought we had moved on as a society...
MALAN!!!!!! He's such a sweetie on "The Malan Show."
You were not at the Kors show??? Shut. Up.
Gee, CassieK's stuff seems like the old skool 1984 looks. (In a good way.)
And yay, ruffledy stuff. Paging Christian Siriano!
I love you guys so much, but PLEASE NEVER FEATURE CATWALK FASHION AGAIN!! It's the very reason I prefer your videos instead.
I think featuring these talented fashion designers is a must. these people are very talented and don't be pissed because you can't design like THEM!!!
PS - I love Rebel and the ruffly thing.
