Must say that I've made plenty of Hexagon patchwork quilts/pillow covers etc without using the paper templates. It's easy to do.

    • NOWIREHANGERS wrote on November 17, 4:54 pm

      Great stuff - but that's a hexagon.

    • knitwench (guest) wrote on November 16, 12:39 pm

Caroline, it's a hexagon, 6 sides, not a pentagon, 5 sides. Common nane for this pattern is "Grandmothers Garden" old, old pattern. Try pressing the folded pieces with a little spray starch, it should help hold the crease better. You may want to consider learning how to sew this patch on the machine, it involves using Y seams, much faster.
If you think you like quilting check out your local Guild, most places have one. Many have shows, you won't regret going. Young, old, male, female lots of very exciting things being done.

Wow! I was mentioned on Threadbanger!! You wouldn't believe my surprise when I was watching my weekly Threadbanger on my TiVo, and I see my own quilt!! I really appreciate the mention, and it is making me smile all day!

I would like to mention, though, that I am male. "Jackal of all Trades" is me, and I'm a dude (notice the goatee in the user photo on my Flickr page)

Thanks again, and you have inspired me to start my 2nd quilt, this time for my twin sister.

Megan Nicolay's "Generation T" book shows you how to make a t-shirt quilt. I amsaving my most very favorite t-shirts for this project!

people make mistakes so the whole penta/hexa should be such a big deal. we would all make a mistake or two
