How-to Crochet a Hat, Threadbanger

This is great! Just after I watched it my friend asked me to make a hat for her and I was like, hey why not try it out? I ended up with a super cute hat that I'm going to add crocheted flowers to. Oh, and I'm teaching about 8 people how to do the project this Thursday! It's a Crochet-Revolution!

Thanks for the crochet hat instructions. Hope your holidays were happy. I am trying to get crochet under control. I am a 60 year old grandmother and you know learning new things keeps your mind from going bye-bye. (; I am teaching my six and four year old granddaughters to knit. Then we will go to crochet, but I have to learn it first. We do lots of other crafts, but I am determined to get crochet as a real skill. So again, thanks and keep up the cheerful sharing. So when i tried mine came out very small. Maybe it was the yarn i was using but i am not sure. Next time ti make it bigger i will be putting one row of single stitches after each round, then i hope it will be bigger. How do you know when the row ends? well, the little peice of string left over at the beginning, use that as a guide. each time you go around and finish the row you should kind of be lined up with that piece of string. and since you always go in the same direction it should be easy to tell when you are close. and sometimes you can tell when you reach the end because the next stitch is slightly raised, or at least at a little different level. i think you can guess work it a little, i dont think it is that big of a deal.

I can't tell when the row ends and my hat came out all lopsided on one side! Does it need to be exact or it is about when the row ends?

Okay I am new to this crochet and I find it very fun to do...I love this video on making a hat. But i am having trouble, i follow all the instuctions and i am towards the end after the 13 row and my hat does not curl up at all. I was wondering if i made a mistiske any where? Please help me...

Heh... my only question is this... how did you work on that hat with the cat sitting in your lap? My cat got curious halfway through the hat, jumped up on the couch next to me, promptly grabbed my yarn and ran off with it. Pulled the hat and the crochet hook right out of my hand! (Then the little purse snatcher ran off with my wallet... sounds like a case of "No crafts, Mom. Just pet.")

my hat started curling by the 1-5 6 sc 2 part... im going to continue and hope it turns out ok XD

Connect the two ends with single crochet stitch Rows: 1. 2 single crochet stitch (SC) in each stitch 2. Stitch 1-3 add 1 SC, 4th stitch add 2 SC. Whaaa!! I learned to crochet a while ago, but I didn't do anything with it 'cause I just didn't get any of the tutorials! (+ I am Dutch so more difficult) But your Tutorial is superexplaining THANKYOU!!!! I am nearly finished, just the 2 last rows, now I have a question: the last row is it: stitch, stitch, stitch, SKIP, SKIP, stitch and than starting over OR stitch, stitch, stitch, SKIP, SKIP, and than startin over? (so with one stitch less?) and I have a big hole on the top :s maybe I should make a flower or ponpon to put on top ;) THANKS AGAINçç

I have tried about 10 times and I believe my problem is mine is too tight but I am not giving up and plan on making one before the weekend is over. I LOVED this video. There was a part where I got confused, I would love if someone could help me.... At the end, when Corinne says to skip a stitch does it go like stitch, stitch, stitch, SKIP, stitch, stitch, stitch, stitch, SKIP or Stitch, stitch, stitch SKIP, stitch, stitch, stitch, SKIP (I was wondering about the number of stitches, just in case anybody was wondering about what was different.)

I made one by doing the pause and write thing- I redid it like seven times before I realized that I skipped a step in there. After that the pattern worked like a dream. I need to post pics- I even made a little feather brooch for it! Thanks a Million corinne!

I'm attempting to do this. I've written the instructions by just viewing the video and pausing it, then writing down what was said. My first attempt didn't quite look like Corrine's but I do believe my yarn is thinner than the one Corrine used. It was a hat , but it was quite large and I'm going to attempt it using a smaller crochet needle. I am determined to make this work. Thanks for posting this video.

hey am i stupid or are other people having problems? normally im awesome at this kind of stuff but now it all goes *POOF*. i'm having issues with the '1 slip stitch and 8 chain stitches' does that mean that there are 9 stitches in all for that first part or wat? any ways love the hat but written instructions would be kinda helpful too! thanks SO much corrine!!!!

Man, I wish I could do this... I've tried and restarted atleast 10 times. I don't really know how to crochet, but I can get by. I have a hard time understanding exactly WHAT counts as a stitch. There is always a _ / CrochetHookHere And I don't know whether to hook through the diagonal yarn crossing to the hook or the flat piece (that looks more like stitch). But great looking hat and a mighty find tutorial... I'm just a bit challenged in the craft department.

I want to make this asap. But I had one question. When doing the 2 single crochets in a single stitch. Is it EVERY 4th stitch (or 5th or 6th or whatever) or just that first one?

Corinne's method may be a bit unconventional, but that's what DIY is all about! There is no crochet president, no rules commissioned by an official board of the crochet elite. Kudos to you, Corrine for learning this fine art in such a short amount of time! I've been crocheting since I was 8 and I lot experimenting with it. I'd love to see more crochet projects as you learn them.

Ah! This is perfect! My mom and I crocheted a Jayne Cobb hat for my boyfriend (instructions on CrochetMe.com) Got tons of comments, and one of my friends now wants to learn how to make a hat and I'm going to teach her on a bus trip in a week. I know how to crochet, but never really thought about HOW to do it, so this helps out a lot!

#1 don't join with a knot, just hold the new yarn against the work and crochet it in. When the old yarn gets too short pull up the 2 loops on your hook and finish the stitch with the new yarn. Crochet the end of the old yarn in by holding it against the stitches and working over it. #2 don't end your work with a knot, it WILL pull out, sooner or later. Pull the cut end through, like Corinne did, then use a yarn needle, a #18 tapstery needle works well, and sew the end into the stitches. Bury the yarn, it will be invisible. Work 4-6 stitches in one direction and then back in the other for 2-3 stitches. I'm famous, ?infamous?, for my crocheted berets, everybody I know has a least one. I use a different pattern, tighter top hole, less counting.

Awesome hat, Corinne! Another way to end the hat is to put the tail of the yarn through your final stitch & pull tight. It makes a smaller knot & holds tight. (:

So when you do the count thing is it every 4 stich/5/6/etc.. you do the double stitch?
