How to make Hat Molds with Victor Osborne , Threadbanger

is the hat usable after you placed the foam in it afterword?

I am following this tutorial but every time I put the foam in my hat to make the mold but it melts and leaks out! 
I need help T_T

2 part spray foams like great stuff are extremely harmful to breathe!! It is a great tool but you need to use a respirator because it can cause neurological damage.  Especially protect yourself when you are sanding the foam!

To all of you looking for brim advice, or trimming, or other sorts of millinery tips, I'd recommend the book "From the Neck Up; an Illustrated Guide to Hatmaking," by Denise Dreher. It has a good self teaching format, and is a great resource for beginning hat constructing threadbangers!

You can make your own hat hood for very little money, you will need a few tools to get started but it can be done.  I show how I do it on my website http://fordandesigns.com/fordan/hatbody.html
It's nothing I have invented, Chad Alice Hagen has a great book about handmade felt hats and she describes her way to wet felt a hood beautifully.... Goodluck!!

hope this didnt come to late, but I was looking at hat supply.com site   and the brim blocks seem to follow the same principles as the crown with the rope line at the bottom.  Maybe you could bolt the crown block to the brim block.  You could probably make it by filling the brim portion with more foam if the hat you are making is shaped like a bell making sure to put two rope lines in and following Victor O's instruction to work from the top.  If the brim turns up like a top hat you can make a second block which would be shaped like a cheerio (hopefully you know what I mean) so that the already formed crown will fit into the middle and not be damaged as you are forming the brim upside down.  I wish I could draw you a picture. Hope this is clear.  This would probably work if you are not going to get any other help from an expert milliner. Hope it helps. Good luck. :)

hey! this is really good i tryed it and worked well (i made a top hat)
but the brimm didnot work i need some help with the brim i loked on victors web page and he had brim blacks aswell can you give us ideas on makeing a brim block?

Arrrgghh! The video doesn't run all the way for some reason.  I tried it twice and i only get to the part where he's about to do something with the string.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Is there any way to make it work???  I'm so sad...

I need some more ideas like this.

hey this was awsome, i totaly want to make one, but is there a more cost effective way to get ahold of the felt hoods? they dont sell them around here and i cant fork out -30 each. is there a way to make your own?

This is one of my favourite episodes.  I've been wondering about felt hats.Of course, I will want to make my own felt though.  I wonder what can be done with thrift store wool sweaters?

ah so great you guys. realy cool idea idea too! but i dont have the the cashola to spend on the felt if you guys could do a tut on how to make a fabric fedora that i could sew that would be soooo cool ive made one with the buckram but it just looks to handmade the rim was wobly and the fabric was loose and the edge of the brim wasnt right either and i was going for more of a profesional look since fedora's are usualy like perfect looking. anywho like i siad i would love you guy's for evers and evers if you could help me out.....(but if not ill still love ya for evers and evers :)

That is Really Useful , I never Find hat's that fit me, I have a big head and I think I might Wear a size 9 or 10 Hat, Not Sure Since I have never found a hat above 8 1/2 In size.

I love this episode!  I really want to make some hats like that now.  I was wondering though how to go about finishing the bottom edge of the hat...is it turned under and glued or tacked??  Can you please do a follow up explaing that??
