      Help me Threadbanger Gods!
I tried to do this project at home
and it blew up in my face literally,
well just smoke came out, but still.
Can you please tell be where I went wrong... =(

    • MonaAlona wrote on November 21, 12:13 am

I did it. the first try sucked because i made them too thick. 2nd try was successful for the most part. i got a couple with bubbles and a little crooked. but that can be perfected.the resin dried perfectly though. they came out cute and i got lots of compliments and requests from me to make them for friends.

first off, DONT EYE THE CATALYST MEASUREMENTS! if you dont get the measurements just right, the resin will crack! maybe it works for Jennifer Perkins cuz shes a pro and has been doing it long. but a beginner shouldnt chance it.

second, DONT USE THE KIND OF RESIN SHE USED! its VERY TOXIC and strong smelling!!! use Easycast epoxy. the smell is very mild. its toxic too but not as bad. just open up windows and turn on a fan to get air circulating. it comes with the catalyst and resin in a bundle and its easier to measure. its half and half. if u do 1 cup of resin, you do 1 cup of epoxy.

try again with those and see how it comes out

you didnt tell how long to leave the first coat of resin for it to congeal. i can tell its the same day but is it minutes? hours? what? how would i know when to put the pics in?

    • MonaAlona wrote on November 8, 5:31 pm

What about how to make the ring? :o(

    • alaskaj wrote on October 31, 7:58 pm

I wonder if you could ad a jumper ring or something on the back while the resin is drying to create a button or something. I don't have a Dremel, so Im brainstorming other ways of attachment methods.. Hmmmmm.....

    • MonaAlona wrote on November 8, 5:46 pm

      thats a good question

    • sharekoube (guest) wrote on November 27, 11:50 pm

Yeah, you can put button backs or ring backs or whatever it is you want. You might want to do it in layers though - it could sink while it's hardening. Make the cubes and let them sit for 24 hours. Then add a thin layer and put whatever kind of back you want to use. Just make sure that the layer of resin comes up around whatever you're sticking to it to give it more stability.

just get the Easy Cast kit, it comes with the resin and the catalyst (i believe its called) which is a hardener. The easy cast comes with both.

    • mothertarantula wrote on September 26, 12:39 pm

      awesome tut!!

ive tryed resin casting before, but i used magazine images, and they turned out all dark. can u not use magazine images because they are too thin? maybe bc i didnt layer the resin?

    • zoid32101 (guest) wrote on December 19, 2:59 pm

yeah, she said to use photo paper, because regular paper smears in the resin.
      :D
