I'm sure you can alter that shrug to be a manly button up sweater or a totally hip vest or something to your liking! Then add some studs, do some funky spraypaint stenceling for a hardcore edge and you're an instant rocker.

DUDE!! Totally awesome!!! And the finished product is soo cute!! I wish I had had this tut years ago when I had this super cute sweater that I had to get rid of cause it had a stain right on the boobs. This would have been perfect!! *sniffle* I loved that sweater *sniff*
Oh cool, I'm not sure if I'd ever wear the skirt, but the 'shrug' thingy is cool ^_^ I don't think I have any old sweaters I want to kill though :
The "lettuce edge" method also works on stretch jersey and t-shirt material. Cutting up a tee or turtleneck will also work fine. :-)

My idea for another show is how to make a cool winter hat or something similar. My ears get cold really easily, what's something simple that would keep them warm and maybe not mess up my hair too?

Aww, poor Rob! Though, the confused look at the end was amusing. Wasn't it a bit nippy outside to be filming? Well, fun episode. It was short and simple, and I learned that spiffy lettuce-trick. The green sweater kind of emphasized the lettuce...
it was 24 degrees outside when we filmed that...we were freezing our arses off:) c

sweet....I've been looking at this cardigan sweater with the lettuce edging down the middle but it was like $70....now I can make my own !! just need to go thru my sweaters or hit the Salvation Army!! great show!! how bad is it when my kids start asking me if a new TB is ready yet?!!

i actually bought it from an antique store in the small town where my family lives in PA...it only cost $4 and i love it so much. i will try to post some pictures of it to give you an idea of how its made.

bahahahah I thought Rob was wearing a sock on his hand, until I saw the thumbs... I wonder if one could make mittens from old socks? No wait, let me rephrase that: I wonder if Threadbangers can find a way to make mittens from socks, then enlighten me onto their power of making ones hands cozy and warm :)
could you make the shrug any longer without it losing its shape?
touchofgrey--I actually made something not too different from this over the summer, but from a fitted t-shirt because I get cold in air conditioning with sleeveless stuff. :P If you want to make it longer, all you have to do is add a couple of darts (I just did in the front, but you could do the front and back if you needed to for shaping.) I'm pretty sure Rob & Corinne had a "how to sew darts" in one of these eps!

i love things that cover my arms but i don't have to commit to all the way. shrugs are probably one of my most favorite things ever *adds to the "most favorite things ever list*
they keep my arms warm but let me show of the shirt i'm wearing under it...
and to all that are afraid of the skirt...there is noooo way i would wear that thing a lone. i only wear it over pants or jeans. i love that look and it matches the shrug which i love to.

too cute! I wonder though for those of us who can't pull a mini skirt off (or pull one on for that matter) if you can use the extra material to add more lettuce edges so that the skirt is longer? I'll have to try it!

Great episode! I just discovered your site and I'm totally digging watching all the old episodes. When you were making the shrug, I noticed your dress form was pretty rad. Did you make it yourself? I've seen some duct-tape versions online, and was just wondering if you had any suggestions on how to make one.

brings up a good point of mine though, i went to a craft festival today, and no clothing for guys. a lot of cool artworks, baskets and foods, but no clothing for guys, but some for girls.
Rob i so own a pair of gloves like that too. They are my favorite ever of all time. Tho I have a tendency to forget theat I put the mitten part up and get myself tangled when trying to grab for something. Thanks for the tut now I kno what to make my little sister YAY!!

Awesome shrug idea though, i'm gonna try it tomorrow. The Sweater isn't too tight fitting but it should work in a similar fashion.
