OK, love it! Yay, guy stuff next week. Good, they deserve it.

I even loved it before you did the lettuce edging! *g* Wheeee! I totally have a sweater I can do the shrug thing with. I'm not brave enough to pull off the skirt look.

  • motoboy wrote in reply on December 25, 3:08 am

hey ladyjane are u ladeejane playing THERE?

  • ladyjane wrote in reply on December 25, 5:29 am

I'm not sure what you mean, so I'm guessing you're thinking of someone else. :0)

  • Todd wrote on November 28, 12:08 pm

Wow, where do you guys come up with this stuff? Great ideas, I wont have to buy my girlfriends anything for Christmas again!!!

  • Lord wrote on November 28, 12:52 pm

Grr, girls get all the cool stuff. But next week will be mine!! BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!

  • everclaire wrote in reply on November 28, 4:38 pm

I'm sure you can alter that shrug to be a manly button up sweater or a totally hip vest or something to your liking! Then add some studs, do some funky spraypaint stenceling for a hardcore edge and you're an instant rocker.

  • ashley (anon) wrote on November 28, 1:52 pm

very cute on miss corinne, probably not so cute on me.

    love your vlog!

  • ryanmoore wrote on November 28, 3:51 pm

  • Needle_Threader wrote on November 28, 4:14 pm

That was cool! I cant wait to try that.
Rob couldnt do the sissors thing because he was wearing mittens :)
Im looking forward to next week!

  • Holly wrote on November 28, 5:39 pm

    Too girly for me. =/
But it looks like the guys are finally getting their episode they've been asking for. :P

  • Raachie wrote on November 28, 6:26 pm

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I've just recently (like two days ago) found a shirt that I've been wanting to transform into a shrug! Thanks Guys!!

  • Tuffaluffaguss wrote on November 28, 6:56 pm

DUDE!! Totally awesome!!! And the finished product is soo cute!! I wish I had had this tut years ago when I had this super cute sweater that I had to get rid of cause it had a stain right on the boobs. This would have been perfect!! *sniffle* I loved that sweater *sniff*

  • Katzilla wrote on November 28, 6:58 pm

Oh cool, I'm not sure if I'd ever wear the skirt, but the 'shrug' thingy is cool ^_^ I don't think I have any old sweaters I want to kill though :

  • ladyjane wrote in reply on November 29, 6:44 am

The "lettuce edge" method also works on stretch jersey and t-shirt material. Cutting up a tee or turtleneck will also work fine. :-)

  • relientjaydn wrote on November 28, 7:58 pm

    yay!!!! Holly Jolly How-to!

My idea for another show is how to make a cool winter hat or something similar. My ears get cold really easily, what's something simple that would keep them warm and maybe not mess up my hair too?

    Love you guys!!

  • miss.green.tea wrote on November 28, 8:20 pm

    super cute!!!

i think its time to go cut up a sweater ;D

  • Casmuffin wrote on November 28, 10:10 pm

I love how you guys are doing a holly jolly how-to! This is really awesome. and ditto to the comment on keeping my ears warm.. it's been quite a problem for me :P

  • Michelle (anon) wrote on November 28, 10:19 pm

The shrug is very cute :)
I think I would make it a bit longer, and maybe use a big button instead.

I love how Rob couldn't do the scissor thing! XD

  • SooperBloo wrote on November 28, 10:39 pm

Aww, poor Rob! Though, the confused look at the end was amusing. Wasn't it a bit nippy outside to be filming? Well, fun episode. It was short and simple, and I learned that spiffy lettuce-trick. The green sweater kind of emphasized the lettuce...

  • pixieapproved wrote in reply on November 28, 11:05 pm

it was 24 degrees outside when we filmed that...we were freezing our arses off:) c

  • ruhi wrote on November 29, 8:29 am

  • jsedai_77 wrote on November 29, 10:48 am

sweet....I've been looking at this cardigan sweater with the lettuce edging down the middle but it was like $70....now I can make my own !! just need to go thru my sweaters or hit the Salvation Army!! great show!! how bad is it when my kids start asking me if a new TB is ready yet?!!

  • Marissa wrote on November 29, 12:23 pm

yay, i can't wait for more "holly jolly" episodes!

  • MsSneakieZ wrote on November 29, 12:48 pm

What is the big headband thingy Corinne was wearing when they were outside? It looked really neat and I want to try to make something like it.

By the way, this episode was great! Rob trying to do the scissor hands, haha!

  • pixieapproved wrote in reply on November 29, 6:59 pm

i actually bought it from an antique store in the small town where my family lives in PA...it only cost $4 and i love it so much. i will try to post some pictures of it to give you an idea of how its made.

  • The Mongoose wrote on November 29, 5:16 pm

I want to make a shrug but I don't know how tight the sweater should be on me before I proceed.

    Love the lettuce edging.

  • mar wrote on November 29, 6:04 pm

wooohoo i love the idea im gonna make my lil sis a shrug

  • Uncanny wrote on November 29, 6:21 pm

bahahahah I thought Rob was wearing a sock on his hand, until I saw the thumbs... I wonder if one could make mittens from old socks? No wait, let me rephrase that: I wonder if Threadbangers can find a way to make mittens from socks, then enlighten me onto their power of making ones hands cozy and warm :)

  • touchofgray wrote on November 29, 8:35 pm

could you make the shrug any longer without it losing its shape?

  • sunnyb64 wrote in reply on November 30, 2:25 pm

touchofgrey--I actually made something not too different from this over the summer, but from a fitted t-shirt because I get cold in air conditioning with sleeveless stuff. :P If you want to make it longer, all you have to do is add a couple of darts (I just did in the front, but you could do the front and back if you needed to for shaping.) I'm pretty sure Rob & Corinne had a "how to sew darts" in one of these eps!

  • BlackcatFriday13thBrokenMirrior wrote on November 29, 9:07 pm

Hey, nice project, I was wondering if you could have a special knitting show.
Please and thank you, like about how pural knitting is diff. from the other kind and how to make your projects even. So like one end of the scarf won't be smaller then the other end.

  • TinaBoBina wrote on November 30, 12:26 am

I guess I was expecting more projects for the first episode of the season, but still a creative idea!

  • capitalistdegrande wrote on November 30, 2:17 am

OMG Steve shot Rob on Indy Mogul, that bastard,
hope you can make a fashionable bandage to cover that hole up.
    LOVE THE SHOW!!!

  • Fooly-muffin wrote on November 30, 5:27 am

Can't wait for the next show :)
    *Freezing like hell*

  • cassie wrote on November 30, 6:57 am

Corrine that "outfit" will NOT keep you warm! But it IS very cute so I'll shut up.

  • pixieapproved wrote in reply on November 30, 12:11 pm

i love things that cover my arms but i don't have to commit to all the way. shrugs are probably one of my most favorite things ever *adds to the "most favorite things ever list*
they keep my arms warm but let me show of the shirt i'm wearing under it...
and to all that are afraid of the skirt...there is noooo way i would wear that thing a lone. i only wear it over pants or jeans. i love that look and it matches the shrug which i love to.
    much love c

  • humblebumbleb wrote on November 30, 7:28 am

Such a great how too. Two pieces out of one. Super. And the headband is rocking. I'm in the midst of designing some stuff like it.

  • sewthernbelle wrote on November 30, 10:19 am

too cute! I wonder though for those of us who can't pull a mini skirt off (or pull one on for that matter) if you can use the extra material to add more lettuce edges so that the skirt is longer? I'll have to try it!

  • ferpectolali wrote on November 30, 10:51 am

corinne! you look fabulous!! I just started making shrugs last week... inspired by your shrug you were wearing at stitch! I'll send pictures! Rob, love the jacket!
let me know when you are in austin again!

  • Sophia wrote on November 30, 5:30 pm

Great episode! I just discovered your site and I'm totally digging watching all the old episodes. When you were making the shrug, I noticed your dress form was pretty rad. Did you make it yourself? I've seen some duct-tape versions online, and was just wondering if you had any suggestions on how to make one.

How cold was it that you felt your eyeballs were freezing?
( i'm trying to compare to the weather here in the currently foggy Ottawa)

Awesome shrug idea though, i'm gonna try it tomorrow. The Sweater isn't too tight fitting but it should work in a similar fashion.

  • fancypants wrote on January 10, 5:06 pm

sweet! I have about ten of those sweaters -- all circa 1995
