Woo! First comment!! I love wrapping gifts! I always try to make things look like something they aren't because my family has a habit of trying to guess. Toilet paper and paper towel rolls are ideal! So If I'm wrapping like a homemade beanie or mitts I'll use a bunch of cardboard and make it look like a frying pan before I wrap it, then they Never guess what I got them!!

Heh... The Stack would not like the destroying of old comics.
    Awesome ep, you guys!

Ahh, no! Sheet music getting ripped up? Ahh! I can hardly afford any as it is. You should've sent it to me! :P
But cool ideas anywho. :) If only I could afford GIFTS. =/

Great episode! I've already wrapped most of my gifts this year, though. I used cloth scraps from all of my other projects to make bags for all my gifts this year. That way the bags can be reused as storage for the gifts, or be re-used next year to wrap things in. Instead of bows, I bought a couple of bunches of silk roses at the dollar store, and glued them to bobby pins, then tucked the pins into the ribbons on the gifts. My bows double as hair accessories. :D
I didn't do that for the guys in my family, obviously.
I love the idea of re-using magazines for wrapping, and the gift packages you did look really sharp! Unfortunately I don't subscribe to any fashion magazines, and the various magazines I do subscribe to I usually archive for reference. I guess I know what to do if I find some unspoiled magazines in the trash, though! Thanks for the tips!

Fantastical Ideas guys. I'm happy to report that I've already done this. My favorite part is making bows. My favorite one that I made was from an old magazine. I cut out 4 small strips. then taped them to one another, starting by making two strips into a cross, then repeating with the other two on top. Then I pull them together by their pair, and tape. Do this all around, and you make my favorite bow... I wish you could just see it, it's pretty self explanitory... I'll try doing that, lol.

To make these episodes more enjoyable, not that they aren't already amazing, you should add music by The Maine [www.myspace.com/themaine] Theyre an amazing band, and would go great with these amazing DIY videos!

Great show! I was thinking about using potato stamps for wrapping paper, I already use them to make decorative paper for handmade books I make. I really need to find an old fashion mag to cut out and wrap stuff with, those small gifts looked awesome wrapped with the models on the outside!

BTW, some of the comments look like they keep repeating things someone else said.... spammers...?

! I totally forgot about making Potato Stamps! I used to do that all the time as a kid!! And I sure am one of those slackers you're speaking of, Rob.

  • PlasmaP wrote on December 20, 9:07 pm

My favorite thing to do is take the motion sickness bags out of airplanes and use those to wrap gifts.

Or you can put them in a cereal box.

Either one makes watching the person unwrap the gift a lot more enjoyable.

"Oh... You got me some Honey Nut Cheerios... You shouldn't have."

  • emma (anon) wrote on December 21, 11:11 am

great ideas everyone! i was thinking just some cool fabric put either side of the gift and whizzed around with the sewing machine would be cool and different! and maybe a little hard to open ;) happy holidays people! xx

  • EllyZee (anon) wrote on December 21, 12:08 pm

Great vid, guys. It was very important to me to use all recycled materials for wrapping my gifts this year. For smaller gifts, I made my own paper out of recycled catalogs and junk mail. I also used a deflated mylar balloon to wrap one, and pages from old National Geographic Christmas issues for some others.

The result was not only earth-conscious wrapping, but some of the most beautiful presents I've ever wrapped! Hopefully, the receivers of my gifts will take a cue from this and do the same for their gifts next year.

  • ashy wrote on December 21, 9:43 pm

If you're lazy or cheap or just like homemade gifts, you can take plastic bags and cut them into strips, then use them to crochet a bag, which is not only unique, but also reusable, waterproof, durable, and best of all, if you're a beach or pool dweller, they float. If you have enough bags to make enough strips you can make anything you can crochet including hats, rugs, bags (of course), or anything else you have the initiative to make (I know, my grandmother's house is brimming with interesting stuff we've made).

Do you have any ideas on what I can do with old mesh basketball shorts? I have a ton, but don't want to get rid of them.....I rather make something out of them.

  • rx3citizen wrote on January 10, 10:30 am

tip: check your local library for free old magazines. at my lib there is a section where people donate old books, magazines, etc, then lib sells books, etc for $1 or $2, but old magazines are FREE.
