Knitta Please, Threadbanger

I have been doing street sign poles in my neighorhood And almost everywhere else i go!!! LOVE IT!

I'm so happy I saw this in my hometown today (Riverside, CA- on Blaine behind UCR near the railroad tracks!) I stumbled upon this on toxel- for all of you thinking covering street posts isn't fulfilling enough. I can't knit- but I'd love to see this!! this is amazing ..i love graffiti .. but this is graffiti you can touch . and it doesnt ruin bulidings(even though i sometimes thinks it makes it look better) .. it shows theres more to graffiti then painting .. its a fashion .its bueatiful. i love it .. wish i could of joined in ! cant really do it to my neighbor hood . i  live in a small town!

instead of spend money in some knit for the city meters, why didn't they knit  socks for poor people?? much more useful isn't it?

It is seriously going to suck when the dogs in the city get to those parking meters--if ya know what I mean ;) haha but it is such a cool thing to be doing

Do the knitted pieces get all nasty after they have been out in the weather? I love the way it looks, but is regular yarn practical for outdoor art?

okay so i have a lot of stuff to say about this chick eliza and any of the haters on here
1st of all:  your probably some fat ass that has nothing else better to do 
2nd of all: you probably sit on your computer all day and criticize people because your OWN art isn't going any where. 
3rd of all: Knitta please is awesome! Who could hate knitting brightly colored pieces?

Wow, I can't believe the negativity of some of the comments. The first time I saw pics of a Knittaplease project it brought a smile to my face. The unexpected color amonst the city blahness just brightened my day. That is what art can do. 

I don't see it as a waste of time and money. It is made up of scraps. Geez, most of those small odds and ends would probably end up in the trash otherwise. Also, the process of knitting is relaxing and helps to calm the soul and lowers blood pressure. (Until you read the mean comments here, anyway.)

This is so cool! It's nice to see the mundane cement of cities being covered up with colorful creativity. Go Knitta Please!!!

While this is a really neat project, I would never do it. 
Classifying it as a "waste of yarn" and such, however, is pretty uncalled for. Look at how you spend your time; everybody does something that's seen as "wasteful" to somebody else.
I think it looks awesome, but I can say that I personally wouldn't do it. 
Props to Knitta Please for trying to bring colour to their streets.

By the way, 2 hours in the knitting world is, like, crazy fast. It's not uncommon for some knitting projects to take months or years to complete.

And did you see the people in the video? All the pole cozies obviously meant something to them. Which means it's not a waste!

I think that if some goes out and buys yarn with their own money, that they worked for and spends 2-3 hours of their own time and knit/crotchet a pole snuggy just for the sake of Art?!!! 
I say WONDERFULL!! 
There's allready so much pain and suffering around us...
and if someone passes by a cOL0rFuLL knitted pole and makes them stop and smile!:) ...then it was so WORTH IT!

so when it's wide spread and there's a leader do the authorities contact them and approve or something?
I think it's cute, might be a "waste of time and materials" but it's their time and materials so what the hey. and as long as if/when they see one "failing" they remove it so it doesent BECOME litter.

I have mixed feelings about knitta as well.

People have the right to buy and do what the wish that's their choice... if some feel it to be a waste too bad.  we all have our own values and that's just how it is.

Art is art.... i get that and i hate to stifle but its on par to littering in my book.  I'm glad they kept it to poles... when i see those on trees i annoys me. 


All i know is those people took that yarn knit it, and left it to the public. If someone was to lets say clip those off the poles and idk maybe knit hats for Homeless or African babies with aids i don't think anyone would stop ya... *HINT HINT*

Hmmm... I kinda have mixed feelings about this whole thing... Great way to bringa bout awareness for the art of knitting... especially since World Wide Knitting in Public day is coming up - http://www.wwkipday.com/ - for more info...
But I agree... what a waste of yarn and 2 hours of effort.  I also hate the fact that it wasn't so much "Graffitti" culture inspired, but that they were invited and asked to do it...

Since when has any kind of art been anything but self-indulgent? Art is all about the artist making something from their own ideas. It's all about self.

And are people who paint or sculpt wasting paint/wood/marble? Why that wood could be used for some nice sturdy chairs for schools. It's ok to use things that are usually used for one purpose for another. It really is. Try thinking outside the box. Go on. 

And as for stealing freely from a culture that has nothing to do with them. Well, isn't everything inspired by something else? It's a compliment from the culture of knitting (which goes back a very long way when you look into it) to a more modern culture of...hang on, which culture are they stealing from? Not sure you said. It isn't obvious to me. 

All in all this is fun. It's removable. And it makes people smile. It's good to see people taking an interest in their world and putting their mark on it in a way that doesn't deface it for good. With pieces they have spent time creating with their own two hands. 

I'm sure you'll get your dull metal parking metres back very soon. Make sure you love them when they're all cold and grey, won't you?

Am I crazy or did we not get any Decor it Yourself for June yet?

I don't think it's a neat idea in the first place, since it comes from a place of privilege while co-opting the language and action of a culture reacting to oppression.  When the people in these organizations grow up and have kids, they'll be in the suburbs where they don't have to see the self-indulgent mess they made.
