Weekly DIY Roundup: Knit and Crochet Hat Patterns, Part 2!
For this week's second part of the hat roundup, I'm showing you berets and slouchy styles! There are so many great designs out there, but these are a selection of free patterns from around the web - as always with knit/crochet stuff, ravelry is the best way to find more! So I'm going to start with crochet this week, just to mix it up a little... Oh and if you haven't seen the Threadbanger video on How To Crochet a Hat, you're missing out!! Check it!
I love the stitch pattern on Merrickball's Marguerite Beret:

Crafty Pants' Pretty Puffs Slouchy Hat is pretty indeed:

Winter Crochet Beret by Chopped Tomatoes looks so thick and warm and cozy:

For a more light and airy design, check out angryolive's mesh beret:

And I'll transistion from crochet to knit with this hat by Kristin Roach of Craft Leftovers which uses both! The Black Swan has a ribbed knit brim, and a crocheted body:

I love this squishy, oversized hat by knitboy1 - Bounce:

For a super simple knit design, Learning My Way Through posted a pattern for Another Slouchy Hat:

Or you can check out Through the Loops' recipe for the One Day Beret, which will work for any gauge!

There are some gorgeous cabled beret patterns out there, like Kalamari Democracy's Cabled Beret:

One of my favorite hat designers, Woolly Wormhead, has several free hat patterns (and more for sale), including a few berets, like the Meret - the pictured example was knit by bluejay17:

How_german on craftster posted her pattern for this super cute two-toned hat, the Mermaid Slouchy Tam:

Ysolda Teague, my pick for best slouchy hat designer (she has several truly gorgeous beret patterns for sale on her website) designed Urchin as a free pattern for Knitty:

Ysolda also designed the Belle Beret for Snippets zine on Cut Out + Keep:

Sockpixie designed this beautiful February Beret, based on a sweater pattern by Elizabeth ZImmerman:

And lastly, Natalie Larson has a couple great slouchy hat patterns which are available as ravelry downloads - so if you're a member (and again, you should be!) you can check out the Spring Beret and the Star Crossed Slouchy Beret, which can also be downloaded here (this example is by Tiffany Thomas):

So many great designs out there, I hope you like my picks! You can share your favorites that I missed in the comments, and share your creations in the forums!
