Weekly DIY Roundup: Unwanted Vinyl Record Projects!

I asked my online friends what they wanted to see me round up and heard them reply "old records!" which just happens to be a craft material that I know and love!! (I love collecting and listening to vinyl too, but I craft with the ones no one would want to listen to!) I'll start with the most common vinyl craft project, record bowls - you can find tons of how-tos all over blog world; the ones above and below are both, by fungus amungus on instructables.
The same person on instructables also has a tutorial for a Dali style melting clock, which I totally love, but you can definitely use the clock part of the how-to without the melting part to just make a basic record clock:

And a third one from fungus amungus, I love this candlestick holder:

Pink of perfection blog show us how to make this great mail organizer:

Back over on instructables, Cynicalifornian shares this vinyl record table lamp:

Chrisjob on curbly shows us how to make awesome LP coasters, if you have the right power tools.

And on to some record accessories... The DIY Network has a how-to by Jennifer Perkins for record cuffs:

CraftBits has a couple vinyl tutorials; first, these cute little record rings:

And then there's this record headband:

Impybat on Cut Out + Keep made these vinyl record earrings - of course you could leave off the adornments if you wanted to.

I love these 45 ipod cases, spotted on treehugger.com - they are for sale (so no how-to) but if you get really good at working with vinyl you might be able to make one yourself!

Scrapsupply has a video tutorial for making a book from a record - you'll need to have book-making tools, but I love the result!

Make magazine's blog has a mini-roundup of record projects (where I found some of mine), including these amazing laser cut silhouettes made by Carlos Aires:

If you have old issues of Craft magazine, I did a recycle it column in issue 06 with vinyl projects, as well as a few album cover projects. I don't know if this link will work for everyone, but you might be able to see the whole article here (if not, you can see a couple photos from it in this post). Like I said before, I love listening to vinyl too, as do lots of us weirdos, so don't go destroying any good stuff! Most thrift stores are packed with hundreds of records no one will ever buy to listen to, so choose those unwanted titles for melting and cutting (it breaks my heart a little to see really good music melted into a bowl). Share any projects I missed in the comments, and show everyone your vinyl creations in the forums!
