Weekly DIY Roundup: Sock Monkeys!
When I saw Threadbanger blogger Heather Mann's awesome Jemaine Clement sock monkey (from Flight of the Conchords) I decided I had to do a sock monkey roundup! You can see some traditional sock monkey love on sockmonkey.com (and lots more sites if you do a search) but I'm going to show you non-traditional monkeys here! Starting with the winner of craftster's sock monkey challenge: Mr. T, made by therealgigantor with 100% recycled materials!

You can see all of the challenge's entries here - I also love Gishygoo's Homer Simpanzee:

Also on craftster, SeeMellySew made this amazing Spider-Man sock monkey!

Over on Instructables, poopscape shows us how to make a Sock Skeleton:

Craftbits has a tutorial for a simple sock monkey, made more fun by using colorful striped socks:

Boing Boing pointed me to Jek in the Box's amazing sock monkeys - including the sock monkey de milo, happy sock buddha, the sock monkey de willendorf, and saras sock vati:

Rebecca Yaker makes incredible sock monkey creations - Craft blog did posts about her work here and here, and Neatorama showed us one of her other dresses. It's hard to choose, but I think my favorite piece is the horrifically awesome Sock Monkeys in a Blender:

Before I move on to knit and crochet monkey patterns, I'll give you this link to one last monkey on Verkstad - this one is 6 feet tall, made from all recycled materials, and not quite work-appropriate (depending on where you work) so no picture here.
Caron has a free crochet pattern for this Sock Monkey Toy:

CrochetKitten has a pdf download for this cute Sock Monkey Hand Puppet:

Mummble-Jummble2 has a free knitting pattern for Nean the Bean's Sockless Sock Monkey:

Here's a two-parter for you - My Knitting Basket designed these cute gloves inspired by sock monkey socks:

...And then Yoelknits designed Sock Monkey Heads to go with the gloves!

Over on knitty, Sheryl Lange designed this adorable Sock Monkey Hat:

And lastly, back to sewing, Stavro on Instructables shows us how to make this Sock Monkey costume for a toddler:

Ok I hope you enjoyed this monkey-tastic roundup! Let us know if I missed any good ones in the comments, and show off your monkeys in the forums!
