Style from the World Streets: Early July Round-Up
With the absence of "Worn Out" looming, I decided to placate your street style desire with a round-up of my favorites from a slew of sites. Lookbook.nu is a status-update-type forum where users can upload their favorite pics (of themselves or others) and rate "looks" with "hype". It's oh-so-looking glass, don't you think? Anyway, I believe the site has some of the best, if not most organic street style sharing around. I want to sit on that wooden fence, kick my heels and dab raspberry chapstick on my lips oh-so-much while looking at this pic.
Fancy some lavender legs? The above look comes to us from Facehunter, a street style blog shot and created by a London man (who also posts his man-on-the-street interviews conducted at high fashion events at thefacehuntershow.com). The above picture was snapped on the streets of Reyjavik, Iceland on July 10th, 2009. I've seen quite a few ads for Iceland Air in the F train recently, and now I'm fully considering a stop-over during my next flight abroad. Perhaps the airline should pick up this chick for their campaign, complete with high-waisted shorts in a classic light blue wash, striped kimono-shaped shirt and chain necklace - not to mention the pastel nylons. Killer.
I also dig Facehunter's find above, caught in Berlin just before the 4th of July - mostly for the canary yellow platforms against the pavement, and partly for the strangely Midwestern bib shirt in the only beige that's never washed someone out. Oh, and I'll never go hip-hugger again!
Impossible to deny, black + white and cropped cuts have begged for double-takes since Jean Seberg sported it all in Breathless. This snapshot is no exception, and The Sartorialist, a street style site capturing wears from worldwide metropolitan centers, picks up on timeless, yet simple looks like this often. Even in the dirtiest of cities (New York) the author always captures clean lines and sparkling colors to perfection. That could be the camera, but shots also appear candid. Compare this pic with the others I've included in this post, for example. Anyway, I'd love to be able to pull off this bowl-cut, as well as the smocked shirt, black skirt and skimmers in Milano - where this photo was taken.
Finally, this gentleman somehow stays cool and dry in the Milano heat while also looking rather swanky. Smoking's not cool but this outfit is, and how about that chiseled mug? I wish this was my great Uncle or something.
Interested in what you see on the street? Some of the best DIY fashion inspiration can be found around you. Snap up some pics (Etsy has a brilliant list of vintage cams) and send them to carlin@threadbanger.com. I'm putting together a show that features what real people wear everyday. *snap snap*
