Celebrity DIY Style: Celebrity Barbie

While celebrity Barbie dolls are nothing new, the latest, modeled after Victoria Secret Model and Project Runway host Heidi Klum, is. If you have a tiny celebrity that you've been dying to make a new wardrobe for, there are lots of pattern options. First, check the pattern catalogs craft\doll section. Currently only Simplicity, Burda, and McCall have sewing patterns for 'fashion dolls'. However, auction sites may carry vintage or out of print patterns that brick and mortar stores no longer stock. Another option would be to search the web for free patterns. There are a few sites devoted to crafting miniatures such as Perestroika Designs (which also sells doll clothes software) and Phaery Godmother (which not only has a number of links to free patterns, but also where to shop for small scale notions). A third option is to shop for books - Amazon has several titles devoted to the subject and vintage Barbie books can periodically be found online as well as Japanese craft books such as Dolly Dolly, Dolly Bird, and Style Book of Doll Dresses featuring Barbie. Lastly, keep in mind that some of the coolest miniature clothes don't always have to be sewn! Knitting and crocheting clothing for dolls has been popular since the 60s. Don't believe me? Check out this awesome book with over 75 patterns for your celebirty girl. [photo via Catwalk Queen]
