Inspiration: Museums

As a lover of history, I recently pondered a connection between museums and crafts and decor; because such a thing would not only be a great resource for history, but would also serve as inspiration for new work and crafts. Thanks to Google, I found these:
First, I came across the website for the Museum of Craft and Folk Art, located in San Francisco. Their current exhibition is focused on an American potter legend, Warren MacKenzie, displayed a comprehensive retrospective of his work.
The Museum of Contemporary Craft, located in Portland, Oregon, has exhibitions as well as offering lectures and classes.

Plenty of large, metropolitan museums have sections that would interest the average crafter as well. I'm a hug fan of the Art Institute of Chicago, which contains an enormous section dedicated to the Thorne miniature rooms. Something about putting things into a small size gives a new perspective on design, certainly. You can also see outfits worn by past first ladies and other people deemed culturally significant at the Smithsonian. Who knew Grace Coolidge had such amazing taste?
