Weekly DIY Roundup: Knit and Crochet Cephalopods and Tentacles!

Let's start the year out with something silly and fun! I've been doing these roundups for so long now that I'm running out of more general topics, so you can probably expect lots of these specific themed posts this year, starting with all kinds of tentacle-y knit and crochet things! I chose this topic because I love Pauline Wickens' Tentacular in the new issue of Knitty!!

Another cephalopod-tastic wearable is Nichole Verville's Cthulhu Beard Hat, available as a free ravelry download:

And Poor Mojo's Giant Squid will fit on a cat or a child:

As the writer says on Strange but Trewe blog, this Squid Hat is "not a hat so much as a head-mounted squid," but it's still awesome!

Your iPod can wear this SquiPod cozy by pinkhairedcyn on craftster:

The rest are all various kinds of toys and other non-wearables (of which there are dozens if you search ravelry), like "Henry" the Octopus by Tina Chance, available as a free ravelry download:

Continuing with octopuses (not octopi, as I recently learned from my marine ecologist friend), Lion Brand offers a free knitting pattern for Ollie the Octopus:

Laura Edwards designed this cute Socktopus for Knitty as a great way to use up leftover sock yarn!

I like the weirdo square look of Tako Maki on Simple knitjutsu:

F.pea blog has a pattern for this George felted octopus:

For a smaller knit octopus, check out Tentacles! by Jem on livejournal:

If you crochet, Melissa Dawson offers the free pattern for the adorable Octopus Revolution! on ravelry:

On to squids! Island of Misfit Patterns offers up Naughty Squiddy, this felted guy:

And another felted knit version, "My Own Based Loosely Upon the Naughty Squiddy" is by Fiber Fool:

For crocheters, Nicole Bilby designed this Crochet Squid:

And my last tentacle-filled category - Cthulhu (fictional elder god)! On livejournal, moon_custafer shared the pattern for Knithuhlu:

Fruppi on instructables gives us the pattern for this awesome Dread Crocheted Cthulhu:

And for a cuter version, Cthulhu Crochet and Cousins blog (yes, a whole blog named for the character) offers Tiny Cthulhu:

For a different take, check out Cthulhu Penguin by Carly Zimmerman, available as a free ravelry download - so silly awesome!

And a couple last items... Nautie by Beth Skwarecki on knitty is full of tentacle goodness!

Amy's Odyssey gives us the crochet pattern for this clever and silly Day of the Tentacle Amigurumi:

Hope you had fun with this roundup! I had to narrow it way down to be manageable - there are so many cephalopod patterns out there!! Share any favorites of yours that I missed in the comments... and Happy New Year!
