Weekly DIY Roundup: Artful Embroidery!
I've been working on these connect-the-dots stitch sets lately, which has gotten me really into embroidery - it's so simple but with such great potential for creativity and awesomeness! There is so much amazing, artful embroidery inspiration online, and I've found several places where you could easily waste the hours away drooling over the beauty of it all! Starting with the blog Mr X Stitch - contemporary embroidery & needlecraft - featuring all kinds of artistic stitching, like these amazing pieces by Louise Riley:
The Hand Embroidery Network is a great place to get lost in the world of stitching - check out their Stitch A Day series to learn how to make all kinds of cool looking stitches in your own work (like this Raised Herringbone Stitch!
The Hand Embroidery Network has recently put out the first issue of Needle online magazine, "truly an international magazine which aims to mix both contemporary and traditional embroidery styles and techniques" - awesome!!
Stitching queen Jenny Hart has a couple of blogs with feature tons of amazing pieces - Embroidery as Art and Over and Under, which is a real-life exhibition, but you can see pictures of some incredible works on the site, like this one by Takashi Iwasaki:
Flickr is an excellent place for photographic inspiration - the Embroidery group has 4,604 members, so the photo pool has plenty to browse through! I love this piece by the ghost factory:
The Embroidery and Science group has all kinds of fantastic pieces that are in some way nature or science related, like this gorgeous work by stitcher extraordinaire meaganileana:
Craft: blog has an excellent embroidery category, featuring works like this beautiful image by savage pixie on craftster:
