Excess Baggage

POSTED BY Brianne DiSylvester, 18 October 2007

Presidential candidate bid or not, Al Gore knows what he’s talking about. And although I’m nowhere close to winning a Nobel Peace Prize from my work in Global Warming, I can take a shot at it the stylish way. It’s said that the average family brings home 1,000 bags every year adding up to 100 billion plastic bags polluting land fills each year…talk about a mess! Enter the Baggu. This reusable tote was creating in (where else) California by a mother/daughter duo, Joan and Emily. They felt the need for a reusable bag that was stylish, practical, and easy. After many prototypes, the Baggu was created. The design can hold the contents of two to three plastic bags (six bags can hold a cart full of items) and the perfect handle length allows you to carry it in your hand, on your forearm, or on your shoulder.

The bags are made from super strong rip-stop nylon, which holds up to 25-pounds and folds into a flat five by five pouch that easily slips into your purse or pocket…so you’re ready to help save the world at any moment’s notice. The Baggu comes in a myriad of colors—red, fuchsia, aqua, khaki, navy, black, and gray—and are $8 per bag. Each reusable bag comes with a tiny pouch for spur of the moment purchases or any extra baggage that may come your way. Ok, so it may not be Nobel Peace Prize worthy, but you’ll feel better knowing you’re doing your part for the environment all while looking stylish. What more could you ask for?
