i heart vintage
when i was a kid, there was no way you could get me to willingly buy clothes from a thrift store. it seemed like the most uncool lame-o thing to do and i was so afraid that my friends would make fun of me. but then something happened. about 5 years ago, a friend of mine was wearing this awesome skirt and i was totally expecting her to say that she had spent a whole bunch of money on it....then she said the unexpected, "yea, i got it from the thrift store for like $2". i was hooked from that point on. i started scouting out all of the thrift stores in my area and quickly became a regular. it is such an incredible feeling to be searching through all the stuff and find something that seems to have been made just for you. it's like finding buried treasure!
ok, so not only do you get to pretend you are a pirate finding treasure, but you are also recycling (the stats on how many articles of clothing that end up in landfills is staggering), reducing fossil fuel consumption (especially if you ride your bike to the store), saving a ton o money, and not supporting sweatshop labor. i feel really good knowing that the clothing i wear is not causing harm to others.

c

thrifts stores rock! started to buy nice colored woolen sweatshirts, unravel the yarn and ending up with tons of great yarn for a buck or two.
par- that is such a good idea! i am currently knitting a baby blanket..(baby is now almost 2yrs old, probably won't have it done till he graduates high school or something) but i am using size 4.25 needles because i wanted a really small knit and organic yarn that cost almost $7 a bundle. i have used already 3 bundles with no finish line in site. it is going to cost me a fortune to complete! next time, i will do it your way!

yay for recycled clothing! i work in a thrift shop and i get tons of free clothes that i rip apart and recreate purses and skirts. it's so fun!
I LOVE thrift stores.I still buy new stuff but whenever i am in the mood for a new unique peice I always head to a second hand store
