i'd rather go naked than wear FUR!

POSTED BY Corinne Leigh, 15 November 2007

we got an email today from the lovely women of compai directing us to a new PETATV segment. i am absolutely horrified. the torture being done to these animals for the sake of vanity leaves me in tears and shocked. pledge not to wear fur and pass this info along to others.

I'm curious - how does recycled fur come into play here? One of our forum members got to recycle her Grandmother's old furs into the lining of her hoodie. It's such a weird gray area, y'know? Me personally, I can't do fur, it bums me out. (I do do wool.)

  • ladyjane wrote on November 15, 4:23 pm

And, OMG - what's the point of skinning that poor fuzzy soul ALIVE? :-( How does that help the quality of the fur??? I don't see the point.

  • emerald wrote on November 15, 4:45 pm

I'm so glad I saw that, because I really had no idea how bad it was, but on the other hand, I wish I'd never seen that. I hate knowing what man is capable of and does go through with. I can't stop picturing that poor animal being skinned alive, and lying there still breathing... And when he steps on that other animals head....

Oh wow, I couldn't watch more that a few seconds of that video. It was just too disgusting to me. I honestly don't have anything against meat or fur as long as the animal's killed humanely, but I personally don't buy fur and my meat intake is kept to a minimum. As far as recycled fur goes, I've used it, and it doesn't bother me too much. I'm all for animal welfare, but I think PETA is a little on the extreme side with some of the things they publish. On the other hand, I think that this is something the world really needs to see. That's so gross. Thanks for sharing.

OMG! THAT IS SO HORRIBLE! im crying right now, i promise that i HAVE to do something to help them!!

You should be ashamed of yourselves. My 15 year-old was so horrified she had nightmares over this. You are no better than anti-abortionists that show aborted babies. Maybe I don't believe in abortion, but it does not help your cause to be so disgusting. She is still an animal rights activist - she is now anti-peta.

that was so intense. i didn't even finish it...but it got a clear point across. oh my god...poor little animals. i am NEVER gonna wear fur :(

  • TheFallenSheep wrote on November 16, 12:37 am

I never wear fur, just because I think it's tacky...
And I really don't like PETA, I am all for animal rights, don't get me wrong, but I don't agree with some methods of PETA.
Plus they have killed like 15-20 thousand animals.
    Hypocrite much?
Other than that, yes it is horrible that they do that type of thing to animals.
Especially for something SOOO useless and vain.
And the skinning while alive was just...so unnecessary. =/

  • pixieapproved wrote on November 16, 11:00 am

    @alison
i'm sorry your daugther had nightmares. it is disgusting and terrible. but if they did not show these types of things, people would never know how bad it really is. PETA may have some extreme tactics, but in all actuality they are animal lovers who are passionate about educating people about how animals are treated. they are the largest animal rights group ever created and are bound to upset some people. the fact of the matter is, is that there are still a lot of people that buy products that harm animals in this way. i would be ashamed of myself if i had received this email and just discarded it without passing it on to our threadbanger community who care about this sort of thing. i'm sorry if it offended you. i am offended to. and i was not joking when i said the video is very graphic.

I have to agree with TheFallenSheep; torturing and killing animals for fur is terribly wrong, but PETA skates pretty close to domestic terrorism and is incredibly hypocritical to boot. The animals need a more upstanding mouthpiece. (You can see http://www.petakillsanimals.com/ for a thorough trashing of PETA)

  • raighteye wrote on November 16, 2:58 pm

    i dig fur
if it's on the animal and dosn't come af XD
    dont kill my fury friends.
if you want to show fur show your own

  • anomalie (anon) wrote on November 16, 7:45 pm

I'm against the use of fur like this, for sure, but I'm also anti-peta. If you do some research into their ideas, they are even against pets because they believe they are being exploited for entertainment. They also condone violence against animal testing facilities - and don't get me wrong, I am against trying out a shampoo on rabbits, but things like insulin and so forth have come from (obviously less cruel) lab tests. Peta says that violence in their case isn't a matter of right or wrong, it's a tactic, and any harm done to people they protests against they say is deserved. That organization is sick, if you ask me. There are other animal rights and rescue programs that aren't anti-human.

  • pixieapproved wrote on November 16, 8:06 pm

don't get me wrong. i'm not here to defend peta. or promote them for that matter. personally, i believe in peacefully protesting and don't agree in harming anyone or anything to get my point across. simply put, they had a video i thought was important for people to see, so i posted it. i wouldn't know that was happening if i hadn't seen it.
i'm not asking you to donate to peta, i'm asking you not to wear fur. i am really grateful for all the comments on this topic, please keep em coming. we are all here to learn.

It’s only natural to want to shield your precious child from the horror in the world, so I can understand Ms. Elder’s reaction. I have to agree with Corinne that we SHOULD find it terrible, disgusting, and any other uncomplimentary adjective you can think of. The terrible stuff the video shows ought to cause nightmares for people of any age. (When I first saw this video, it certainly shook me to the core, and I was twice the age of the daughter.) Corinne acted responsibly by warning viewers of the graphic nature of the video and by making the decision to follow her conscience instead of keeping the matter to herself. Alison, you sound like a caring, protective person, and I’m interested to know if you also viewed the video. If you share your daughter’s strong reaction to it, speaking out against it might be a great think for you and your daughter to do together. :-)

The people that do that are serously wrong in their heads, and what made me feel worse was that you could hear some laughs.

This reminds me why I'm a vegan.

  • Holly wrote on November 21, 7:42 pm

I've ALWAYS been against wearing fur. So is my mom.
I finally went veg a few years ago, and gave up leather (I didn't get it myself, my dad made me wear a leather jacket and stuff). I'm glad to not be supporting all the idiots that do things like that to animals.
Thanks for being awesome, Corinne, and going against wearing fur. :)

@Allison I don't think its very fair to attack ThreadBanger for putting this information up. It is the truth and very unfortunate. There are worse things floating around the internet these days, and nobody forced your daughter to watch this.

  • peacefuldevil wrote on November 26, 8:05 pm

I don't have a problem eating meat because it is the way of nature but for fur especially the way they took it and the fact that we have so many alternatives now. also Allison Threadbanger isn't responsible for what your daughter watches it is you the guardians responsibility

OMG the way they slammed those... *shivers* i've always had a problem with fur coats... they creep me out.

I don't even wear fur much only 5 times in my life..

I don't like fur either. Its kind of tacky =-=

Hoodies and thin sweaters are better :D

Stay fur free everyone! I watched the whole video..it was SCARY

Thing of you having a past life of being an animal an INNOCENT animal in that scary place :(

Stay fur free :DDDDDDDDDDD (Sorry for the long comment, its 12:55 am and I'm still awake :3)

    Ah, stupid grammar.
    I'm in 7th grade =0=
    I type quite fast
Sorry for the language if that counts at all O__O

  • crafty.rebel wrote on September 7, 2:04 pm

i can'twatch the video... i've always loved animals and i'm gonna study zoology and see where that takes me with my lovelies... but i can't imagine how people can wear and KNOW they're wearing corpses in the name of fashion... sickens me and i spit on those people! (metaphorically speaking, ofcourse)

actually my mom was given a fur jacket (which she loved) when i was 6 and when she told me even back then i screamed and kicked her and made her return the bloody gift! (which she did)
