ThreadBanger HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE

ThreadBanger HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE

so black friday and cyber monday have come and gone but being thread heads you are probably thinking to yourself...."where can i go to get quality, one-of-a-kind, handmade goods?" or "what gifts can i make myself?"

if your family and friends are anything like mine, they are all extremely different which can make handmade gift giving seem a little daunting. the idea of making every gift is a wonderful one but for most of us who have little to no spare time, and this is not a possibility.

the best place to start your shopping is ETSY. there are soooo many different crafters selling their wares, it would be safe to say that you could find something for almost everyone on your list.

if you cannot find anything on Etsy, here are some other great sites you should hit up:

www.indieshopping.com
www.indiefriendly.com
www.modish.typepad.com
www.missmalaprop.com
indiefixx.com
www.ishopindie.com
mymy.us
www.indieblogdirectory.com
www.wickedlychic.com
www.emergingthoughts.com

do you know of any indie shopping outlets we've missed? add them to the comments below!

and if you haven't already, take the Buy Handmade Pledge!

ok, so if you have a bunch of time on your hands and really want to make gifts yourself, here's a little list of ideas that you might get some inspiration from.

- fairy wings (that's what i'm making...hope no one reads this who will be receiving a pair)
- ornaments personalized with pictures of you and the person
- winter wear (stay tuned for some great how-tos)
- elf hats aka pixie hat
- jewelry
(i will add more to this list...but that's all i can think of at the moment....)

and don't forget about the wrapping paper! i like to use old magazines, brown paper bags, newspaper... and i like to dress a package up with random pieces of ribbon. please don't buy new wrapping paper! its such a waste!

I plan to check out Etsy.com for some one-of-a-kind gifts.
I'm making gifts, too. I'm planning on making double thick fleece blankets with coordinating (more thematically coordinating than matchy-matchy) flannel jammie pants (they'd also be conducive to turning down the thermostat) for a bunch of people on my list. I can't wait to hear about more ideas from other Threadbangers!!

Oh man, thanks for this list.
I'm 16 years old and broke, and I still want to get friends and family gifts if I can.
    This'll help me a bit.

Something I've been making for people this year for Christmas are pillows! If you can't tell from my forum posts ;) I have three more to post now. But they're really easy to make and they can be as personal as ever!

Just take two square (or any other nice shape, hearts are good) pieces of fabric, the same size, maybe about 15x15, and lay them together with the nice side inside. Sew three sides together. Turn it right side out and stuff it with whatever you think will work well. Personally, I use fiber fill (it's cheap and washes well) but that doesnt' stop you from using old scraps or something! Then (this is the tricky part) fold about 1cm of the fabric in from the open side to make the final 'hem' and shut it. Sew it up, push the stuffing around a bit (throw it in with you in bed tonight, that works pretty well) and you've got yourself a great gift or an addition to your couch/bed!

    Little make-up bags are good for gifts too (;

This year I'm making all of my holiday gifts, and many of them are from recycled materials. I LOVE that there's finally a push to stop being so wasteful with everything. This video really helped remind me WHY I was doing the things I was.
