Worn Out: Street Style Pics of the Week
My desktop background changes CONSTANTLY, and nine times out of ten it's because I've fallen in love with a new outfit I've seen somewhere online - and, nine times out of ten, it's a get-up from one the dozens of street style blogs I look at every week. From Alta Mira to Your Boyhood, I check 'em all and starting RIGHT NOW I'll be presenting my top 5 favorite weekly picks here at the ThreadBanger Blog! Shall we??

The above left pic is from a May 7 posting at Face Hunter; the pic on the right is from a May 10 post at Hel-Looks. I was drawn to both for the pops of pattern and color-tempering neutrals, but the similarities really end there. While the girl from Face Hunter is a (successful) clash of decades (it's the 80s, tiered cotton skirt vs. 1990's Doc Martens), patterns (the stars & stripes of the skirt look great with her ikat bag), and fabrications (the ultra-patent boots somehow work with the organic beaded bracelet and necklace), the girl on the right is all Scandinavian-sleek with close-fitting layers under the voluminous top. And doesn't the fringe work to resemble the Acne cage dress? I'm way into it.

Their shared pose aside, these two (left pic from Glam Canyon, May 13; right pic from Face Hunter, May 11) are both incredibly classic but still very, very now. Even with the Bowie-ish smear of gold glitter, the lace dress and full-skirted slip come off as beautifully Victorian (and the plush red couch behind her doesn't hurt with that, either). But what sealed the deal on this outfit for me was the addition of the almost nautical, navy blue-and-gold belt. So unexpected! The gent on the right has some nautical leanings of his own - nothing screams "YACHT" to me like a sun-bleached, chambray shirt - in fact, nothing screams "YACHT" more than someone dressed for complete and utter comfort who has decided to finish of his outfit with a pair of velvet slippers. It's hilariously opulent, and that's why I like it.

I saved my favorite picture this week for last, and it's from a May 12 post (scroll down for it) at Refinery 29's Street Seen. You won't often find me rallying behind the flip-flop, but this outfit just reminded me so much of the long summer days ahead that I had to overlook it. Oddly enough, she has actually combined a lot of the things I liked about the other four pictures I favorite-d this week: the shiny black belt and soft leather bag are an interesting pair, the wild color/pattern combo of the skirt is calmed by the neutral tank and accessories, and, altogether, the whole outfit is a very current take on an easy 70s classic. Perfect for walking around the city.
What were YOUR favorite outfits from the past week of street style blog posts? Anything you love (or not so much!) about the above outfits??
