Barbie goes DIY?

For all of you out there who loved Barbie dolls growing up, but didn't so much love their clothes, Mattel has announced that they're bringing out a new line of accessories called "BCause Collection." Instead of throwing away old scraps leftover from making Barbie's extensive clothing and accessories, they've decided to use them and make fun and unique patchwork purses, bags, pillows and diaries! There have been much debate over whether this is a good or a bad more for Mattel. Some people claim that it's just a way to them to capitalize on what used to be trash and make MORE money. Other people believe that even though they claim to be doing something good for the enivironment, Barbies are still packaged in way too much non-recyclable plastic and made of plastic. What about THAT says that is eco-friendly?

I'll leave it up to you to decide. Is Barbie really doing a good thing? Or is it just a way for the multi-millioin dollar moguls to make even more money?

I think that it is a start in the right direction. I mean, any repurposing of what would be trash is a good thing. However, if they are really serious about making a difference in the environment, they should change their packaging. That would have more of an impact than using their old scrap fabric.
