How to Make Earrings out of Bottle Caps

POSTED BY Sara Franklin, 24 July 2007

For more information on this project and more, check out the video!

Materials:
4 Bottlecaps
Old Magazine
Hammer
Nail
White paint, other colors as well
20 gauge silver wire
Earring pieces

1. Place a bottlecap right side facing up on the magazine. Use the hammer and nail to make a hole in the middle.

2. Take the hammer and bottlecaps outside. Starting with the wrong side facing up, flatten the bottlecap. Flip it over, and flatten some more.

3. Take out some white paint and paint a base coat on both sides.

4. When they're dry, paint them again with the color of your choice.

5. Take out some 20 gauge silver wire and cut off two even pieces.

6. Put one end of a piece of wire through the loop of an earring piece so that one side is longer than the other.

7. Cross the wire over each other under the loop of the earring piece.

8. Take the wire and loop it through the earring piece one more time to hold it in place.

9. Thread the shorter end through one of your bottlecaps and twist the end of the wire up into the spiral. Repeat to the other end of the wire, and you're done with the first earring!

10. Finish the second one, and you have a new pair of rad earrings!
