Nerdy Knitting

POSTED BY Kendra Cunningham, 07 August 2008

As knitting has broken away from its typecast role of strictly a grandma thing, and into a popular and trendy craft, knitting has yielded everything from little knitted foods to inappropriate knitted body parts- all of which are affixed with a little smiley face. But my favorite of these knitted makeshift trends definitely has to be in the category of nerdy knitting. Since I am a self-proclaimed nerd myself, I always gravitated towards nerd fashion whether periodic table t-shirts or wearing a skeleton jumpsuit for Halloween, just so I could point out where the medial maleolus was. But I am not alone. Others have taken up the call and created some wonderful knitted science-oriented paraphernalia. So check out these science-y projects, who knows maybe you’ll learn something.

Biology that’s cute and guilt free!

Knitted sensory neurons anyone?

Megziewoodles from the forums knitted a scarf to match the emission spectrum of iridium. Awesome job!

Wow! So you're saying that my having a zoology degree is no longer incompatible with the fact that I work at a yarn store. Cool.
