Book Review: Complete Embellishing
Complete Embellishing is the first book by crafter extraordinaire, Kayte Terry, the former Visual Manager of Anthropologie. It's a personal and inspiring work, illustrating how crafting and embellishing have been a formidable presence all her life. Sometimes a battle and sometimes a burden, in her introduction she explains how her book is a collection built upon her adventures and misadventures in her years as a crafter and now she shares with us thirty wonderful techniques of embellishments to live the DIY life. Not limited to just clothing, Complete Embellishing also explores with accessories and home furnishings to show how everything is open to embellishment. A true crafting and recycling revolutionary, Terry shares her 200 page work of lessons and projects to encourage and inspire readers to let embellishing invade every corner of their lives.
My favorite projects in the book are the Bits and Pieces Scarf, a project using dye and different doilies to make a really beautiful patchwork scarf and the projects involving felting- the Lord and Lady Pillows and Garden Vine Shrug. This book is especially great to explore and begin using techniques that can be very difficult and complicated such as, crocheting, embossing, felting, applique, embroidery, patchwork, fabric printing, and sequins. This is a great book for everything from shoe embellishment to folk art tea towels- make the ordinary extraordinary!
Kayte Terry also writes a wonderful blog call thisisloveforever.com and is a contributor for Adorn magazine, Craft Stylish magazine, and getcrafty.com.
