you could sew the crotch and butt seams first and then the inseam. it's easier and faster.

Love the tutorial!  As a fellow fashion nerd who got a bachelors of science in it, I wouldn't mind hearing the tutorial about why leggings are warmer than jeans.  

Meanwhile, to all you picky no pattern people, just find the tutorial in the archives for tee-shirt shorts, cut as shown but dont sew until you transfer the shorts onto paper, then lenghten as needed.  But you are still selling professional patterns short.  A real DIY fashion freak knowns how to alter patterns to get the look he or she wants.  And that takes some skill you can only learn by....wait for it...sewing from a pattern!

Pattern reading is an important skill if you want to eventually learn to make your OWN patterns. The stuff old Threadbanger had was great. But learning how to use patterns is also important if you really want to improve your technical skills.

Great video, thanks! I don't have access to patterns right now (ohhh... Japan...), but I might try making one from a pair of leggings I already have. That elastic tip is good. I always have trouble. Whenever I sew elastic on, it loses its stretch!

I like the tutorial but just to clear something up; for the elastic band, you would use the measurements for your waist not the measurement of your hips. Also when you cut the elastic, you have to make it roughly 1 inch smaller than your waist  measurements, otherwise you'll end up with saggy legging that will start to fall  down as you wear it throughout  the day.

you can make your own without the same exact sewing pattern if you know how to make your own patterns.  or simply take some tights or leggings you already have with fabric that has the same elasticity and go from there.  You could always make them slightly bigger than you would estimate and take them in as needed.

Thank so much for using a pattern, I love to customize my things but need a good foundation to build from, and patterns are just that.

I love you using the pattern idea. I actually had purchased this pattern a month ago during one of the 99 cent sale and have not had enough courage yet to tackle it, cause I am a newb. I would love to see a tutorial for tops that will go with these leggings for Winter. Thanks.

geesh guys I give her a 100% for this vid for patterns are a good thing to learn for some things its much easier to start  at that point and if need you can custom the pattern. I go both ways when I sew and then I have even just whipped it together with out any pattern what so ever. then wished I would have for the next time I want to make it...lol threadbanger has changed but I still find the videos fun to watch. And she is a cute threadhead so give her a break..snip snip

I had an idea that I need help putting together.  You know those wheat bag warmers that you can heat in the microwave?  Well I wanted to make some slipper shaped, possibly even attach a sock tube to the ankle hole so I can wear them to bed on cold nights, I just can't figure out how to get them stuffed with the wheat and quilted into place.   Can you help?

Oooh, and I can use the elastic sewing technique for the skirts I make. I hate threading elastic thru casings.

it's good that she's going to teach a few things about patterns. even professionals use patterns. it's fun to make your own but it's quick and just as good to be able to work with an already made pattern.

Oh, yuck, don't do a whole lot of patterns.  I hate store bought patterns.  The whole awesome thing about threadbanger is that you don't need to buy those patterns and deal with that horrible paper mess.  That being said, I do think I'll make some leggings, but not with a pattern.  This would be even better if you'd teach us to make leggings out of old tee shirts and stuff.  Hugs!

OMG so easy! I am a noob to the sewing world, and I'm trying to teach myself...yeah not easy LOL.  Imanaged to make a couple of things out of my sisters old pants and winging it!  But this seems super easy, not to mention, super narly!
