1. First, measure your front from the top of your bust to your waist. draw a line on your pattern paper with that measurement.

2. Next, take your bust measurement subtract 2 inches from that measurement and divide that number by 2.

I have never used a "real" pattern. Yes, I've created my own and made nice things from them but never in my life attempted a professional pattern. Shocking, I know.
