POSTED BY LEE MEREDITH, AUGUST 08 2008 03:30 PM | PERMALINK

Oh man, it's been hot! And for me, this kind of weather means skirts skirts skirts! I can never have too many! Especially the cool, flowing, lightweight kind. I'm hoping to find the time this weekend to make a couple from some thrifted bedsheets! So I've rounded up a bunch of tutorials, pattern how-to's, and inspirational designs to help you with any last-leg-of-summer skirt making you might want to embark on...

The "5-minute skirt" by Amy Karol of angry chicken might take you a lil' bit longer than...

  • Weekly DIY Roundup: Button Down Shirt Projects!

POSTED BY LEE MEREDITH, JULY 18 2008 05:32 PM | PERMALINK

The other day I tried out an idea I'd seen on a blog using button down shirts and it was so fun that I went on a thrifting spree for more shirts. Now I have a ton of them and I needed more ideas for things to make, so I got searching and found some great projects!

The one I tried out is this skirt idea, which uses 4 sleeves so that the sleeve cuffs with the buttons go around the waist. Mine was pretty messy, but I learned from my mistakes and plan to make more! The blog that gave me the idea was ...

In the interest of saving both you and myself from the same fate, here are some ideas for turning regular thrift store finds into on-trend, high-waisted gold:

Drop a size (or two). Regular skirts are made to rest at your...

In the spirit of Father's Day, this week I bring you a Dad-present-inspired roundup - things you can make from old neckties! Whether you have one or several dozen, there's a project for you!

I'll start small... you can find some gorgeous fabrics in tie form, so you can just treat it as a small amount of fabric for whatever project could use a unique accent. Blogger blissed out uses scraps of tie silk to applique a sweater, beautiful!

I've done the same thing to decorate a photo album cover:

  • Weekly DIY Roundup: Old Jeans!

POSTED BY LEE MEREDITH, MAY 30 2008 11:05 AM | PERMALINK

The Threadheads have been featuring some great projects using old jeans lately - I was especially amazed by Ryan Moore's sweatshirt collar last week because I'd never seen that idea before - genius!! And Meg's Decor It Yourself apron a couple weeks ago was so cute! So I started searching for more fun recycled denim projects and found a ton of them! If you're into making jeans more cool, but keeping them pants (like dyeing, embellishing, reshaping, etc), there are loads of ideas for you out there too,...
