Halloweeny How-to: Wicked Witch Costume

Hi, I'm looking to go as The Queen of Hearts this year, somewhere between Tim Burton's & the cartoon - but with a younger look. Any ideas/ tutorials you could recommend?

I'm so glad I found this site! I made the hat and use the sleeve trick on the witch costume I was making and it all turned out wonderfully.

thank god for this episode, without it, i would not have a halloween costume!!

Although the dress part of the witch outfit looks time consuming, it looks much better than the over priced costume for Halloween. Like how you made sleeves wider near the front, would that work an aristocrat looking gentleman?

I've watched the other episode with the ruching, but I still don't understand it fully. Is there anything else I could possibly watch to try and get the hang of it?

For anyone trying the witch shirt - when you cut the armholes - don't just cut the same amount for the whole armhole - I did that and am now having to rebuild the underarm which got cut too low. Pin the line, and try the thing on *again*. Also, pinch and pin works much better on a duct tape dummy - its worth making one!

Secondly just curious on how long it took to make the skirt, since Susan said it took two weeks, yikes, to make the dress for Wicked.  You are amazing.

Great tutorial you guys. I already have an old velvet dress that I modified last year and I pair it with an old 1900's looking nightgown. This sort of gives me a red riding hood (if i pair with my red hoodcape)/bar maid look/ possible witch if i wear a hat.
Your version is much better though, and much warmer for running about on halloween night.

That skirt's really cool and would look good as a short skirt too!

i did the same thing to my friends costume but insted of making ruffles i cut out a cople circle and cut 2in off like a spirle till it was down to the end so if you had a 10 in circle then your going to get i think 100 in strip (im no good at math)or you can cut 2in bies strips and strech on side of the strip so its less time consoming
