Threadbanger: What to do with your old stockings

i hate looking in the forums for things. blueknewtheshoe's idea is awesome but i can't find it :'/

I'm going to try to use old panty hose as a screen and print with it.  Anyone try that already?

I know it's not a type of clothing or whatever, but I another really useful way that old stockings etc. can be used is as boot-forms (I'm not actually sure if that's the right term for them, but they're things that you put in tall boots to keep them from flopping over and getting all weird). You just take old newspapers, roll them into a cylinder wide enough to support your boots, and stick them into the stockings. Then just tie off the end(s) so the newspaper stays all nicely rolled up, and put 'em in your boots. No more flopping.

A really quick one is to cut a loop and use it as a choker. Cut a quite wide loop so you can fold over the cut edges.

Other ways to recycle stockings: (1) cut off the panty/control panty top and use it on stockings that don't have support(or some that ore too short somehow...)(2) cut off the stockings up above your knees and use as pants socks - secure with elastic bands (3) make period stockings by cutting off the stocking at mid thigh and tieing on with stocking strips
(4) What about the laddered stocking look of this fashion season?  Could you ladder your stockings artistically?

and i know that i used my old stockings to do diy screenprinting. 
 you could even make a lamp shade out of old stockings too!

What I like from this designer is how she challenges her OWN creativity.  The stuff in her store is totally sweet.  I especially like the earrings made of decoupaged pennies.

This is great! :) I had these really nice frilly stockings that don't fit me anymore. Now I can turn them into decorative jewelery or something else really rad! Lots of ideas!

I just got a new Yorkie pup for Valentines Day and the lady I got her from made sweaters for them from old socks. Looks like she cut the foot off them crocheted some along the bottom and arm holes. It looks nice.

When I was a kid my mom sis and I saved our run pantyhose and used them in stuffing for craft projects, just cut them in strips as in the video and use for stuffing.  
I always thought you could cut the elastic off the top and use in another clothing project.

That was pretty cool. My mom used to make the beaded one back in the '80's. She would sew a small tube, slide in a marble and then knot it. She would get a long chain of them that looked just like that bead necklace! She had a billion of them.

i don't wear stockings... but what are your suggestions for socks? :) i'm sockoholic, and tend to collect many different types, colors, patterns etc... unfortunately i also have a dog, who also loves socks! i mend what i can, but i still have a collection of fairly nice, somewhat holey socks i think would be a shame to just throw away.

Wow, two years for one pair of stocking???  That's great.  For old worn stockings I used them as rubber bands for the hair or as my daughter calls them hair ties. When my pantyhose ran on one leg I would save them till I got a second with a rip and cut out the ripped leg on each pair and wear them as one.  The added bonus was the control top feature of using two panty tops.
