This was such a GREAT video!  I'm so excited as I was tring to make boot covers for my daughter's Wonder Woman costume. I took the basics & it worked like a charm! Thank you - thank you - thank you!!!!

I just found this, and I have to say I think this is the easiest way to make spats 

I know this is vid is nearly 2 years old, but I'm hoping someone can tell me how to make or where to get the hat/headpiece Corrinne is wearing during the intro of this clip?

Can you make spats that go all the way up your leg in fhis way even if the boot only go to your akle

I love this!  Wish I hadn't ditched my sew maching.  Where can I buy these?  I'd like a pair that comes down farther, covers the heel more.  (this is about the spats)

Personally i dont like that the leather she used matched the leather of the boot...too matchy matchy for my taste. But i really love the tutorial, and i think they look fantastic :) i cant wait to make my own!

I just found this great tutorial on the spats and it seems so easy. One quick question; could anyone tell me how to adjust the pattern to make knee high spats? Not the greatest at creating/sewing concepts but I'm great at following instructions :D

I agree with the comments about Corrine's hat. It is amazing and i would love to know where to get it or how to make one, please!!

Sweet!!  My spats got a show! Mine were the khaki ones with the brown buttons that had 2 different perspective shots.  Those, essentially, were only supposed to be a preliminary make before I made the other ones out of a different material.  But, I liked the first pair, so the other ones are on hold.  Nonetheless, I get asked about them any time I wear them out, as they are a persistent part of my daily attire.  I did make one other pair before making the high ones, which were a shorter pair from a pattern I sniffed out online.  They are made from the same muslin and liner.  Once I had those made, I just used the original pattern and just extended it upwards, and fitting a top measurement of my upper calf.  Sew on more buttons, and viola`!!

awesome I made three pares with fabric,only I'm having problems putting the third pair together cuz they're two sided and my sewing machine does not have zigzag stitch

Nice. I actually can't sew or anything like this to save my life ^^; I came here looking for some Steampunk tutorials for my outfit, and this is a realy help! I hope I don't mess it up too badly, and I have the perfect boots for this.

Spats are awesome and I do plan to make a few pairs but I really want to know about the wicked hat you are wearing in this episode.

First off- I love Threadbanger!
Secondly, those spats look so cool! I'll be trying that out with some starched fabric, just to see if I can do it.
One thing though- she uses a buttonhole foot on her machine- I have one exactly like it, but I'm not really sure how to use it. I don't even know if it works with my machine because the needle would hit the little white plastic part in front. Does anyone have a foot like that and want to give me a hand?

Hah! The first three steampunks shown in the video are Liz Spain, Molly Porkshanks Fredricks, and myself!  Fun!

I am in agreement with Clkwrkdragonfly's comment on the rubber cement. Barge is great for leather, but failing that, one might try Fabritack fabric glue (avail. at most craft shops). I've had great success using this on leather. I would also weight down the seam allowances as they dry to assure the sharpest seams. Fabulous tutorial, regardless! Rock on!

I love spats and I think they look really awesome, but they got me wondering. Did people in victorian times wear spats and if so what were they for? Love the episode and keep up the great work threadbanger.

One minor criticism, don't use rubber cement. It's easy to use and all, but it's not really designed for a permanent bond and tends to peel over time. Get a good contact cement (I use Barge brand for leather, but there are plenty out there that are just as good) that is designed to be flexible (not all are, check the package) and your seams will stay tidy FAR longer.

Other than that, a great tutorial.
