i have a school masquerade dance to go to and this helped alot but i have one question dose it matter what paper you do it with?

How do you make a mask while wearing glasses?

how would i make a mask that dosent need a stick to hold it up?

does it matter what color or shape it is????

What about the wire ends of the whiskers?  Can't you put something on the end so no one gets poked?

how do you make the holes in the side of the mask for the ribbon or strechy ribbon to go through?? Because what if you dont want the stick to told on to??????

I love this website, especially the episode making a bag from the plastic we throw away. I will do this. Also, I have made a mask before but not nearly as expert as this. I will also try this method. they cost  to  in Pier I. I have lots of beads and doo-dads to add. you gals are terrific!!! PS I love making costumes. Do you have episodes pertaining to this?

i made a mask  for valentines day here how you make Make it a normal shaped mask or a heart shape(with is what i used) and choose a color of your choice (i used pink) and sponge with acyclic paint. get anything (be creative) maybe heart shaped sequins or cardboard cutouts of all sizes and stick around the eyes and the rest is your choose GO DIY AND THREADBAGERS

I love your ep about masquerade masks, but i have a problem, i do not know where to get all i need to make it. pls i need some help.

I'm really interested in making masks, and I was curious as to how to make a full face mask. Would I just put the plaster wrap cloth on my lips? or is there a certin way to go about doing this? Once I get supplies I'll start exspirimenting, but it would be nice to know what I'm doing. (great quality tutorial, couldn't find a better one any where else) -thanks

If you don`t have eneough money for the plaster of paris you can use news paper and glue on a plastic mask that is plain, in school I made a helios mask It was the teachers favourite. you can also use an already made plain mask as a mould for the plaster of paris if you don`t want to use your face. you could also make a batman mask by following the steps, and adding a back for the mask and the pointed cheeks

How could i make a full face mask?

What's that plaster stuff? Plaster wrap cloth, was it? I need to make one of these for school and paper mache is too messy. This process looks a lot better. Oh and should i really cover my eyebrows when applying this stuff? I heard that it could be dangerous for the brows. (i.e. "Unless you wanna be drawing them on for the next two months.") Thank you.

Would Paper Mache work just as well?

Try using cling film instead of or as well as petroleum jelly. No risk of losing the eyebrows!

I REALLY recommend to cover your eyebrows not only with the jelly but also with a thin layer of tissue paper or toilet paper... unless you dont wanna have to draw them on for the next 2 months!

What am I to do? - my mask has ..hm traces of the base on which the plaster was held..like small threads. i tried to file it but could not. Can u advise (or better show) how to glue/attach fabric to the plaster mask?

OmG!! loved this!!! For a chorus concert one year we made masquerade from phantom of the opera!! I had so much fun making masks! The process was a bit different then this, but so much fun all the same!

i remember making this when i was in the 4th grade, but insted of putting the plastard straight on our faces we put some petroleum jelly on our face then we took a tissue and cut out the shape of the mask with room for our eyes and nose and put it on our faces then put the plastard on, it was easier to remove with the tissue on, then decorated however we wanted to once it was dry

You need a tutorial on how to make glitter pictures. I really want to make a Pink Panther glitter picture for my studio but don't want to screw it up.

I remember making a cat mask in High school, complete with a kitty nose and everything! We didn't use plaster on our faces though ): We just used those cheap plastic masks you can get at craft stores. I wish we did it your way, because my mask never fit me!

Me and some friends are going as the umbrella academy kids, this is going to be much better than painting it on our faces.

This mask is great, I think I will use it next year for something. This year I used your tutu tutorial to make a ridiculous tutu out of some crazy tulle and an old skirt. I want to dress my boyfriend up as a werewolf, so a tutorial on that would be great!

How to make a mask, when you are wearing glasses!! It is very difficult to make such lovely mask with glasses on. Maybe someone as an idea!!

hehe... I saw this yesterday, I made one too!!! I used news paper and a DIY glue mixture to make the mask, it took a while to dry, but it felt good to use stuff that i was going to throw out anyway, I lined the mask back in some left over velvet from my scrap box, so it would be all soft and cumfy and made ties out of ribbon because I didn't want to hold it, but i love the stick thing and decided to make some wall art, steampunk style with gears and such, thats still in the works, but i love how easy this was to follow!!!

i love this...  I have an art opening on the 30th and we're encouraged to wear costumes.  i have been obsessing over Marie Antoinette, esp the hair...  but do NOT have the time or money to make the dress.  so i'm going as a BUST of Marie Antoinette.  this masquerade mask will go perfect with my plan!!  I'll post pics when it's all done...  but do you think you guys could do a show about building diy hairpieces?  a major obsession of mine at the moment...  (thus the Marie Antoinette)...  THANKS!  you guys rock...  i'm so hooked...

Haha I just made this a few hours ago and it was fun. Extremely easy to take off, just move around your face, raising eyebrows and smiling. I took it off quickly and sprayed it with clear acrylic spray. Plan on painting it tomorrw. :)

I've always wanted to make my own masks. You know what would be so cool to make also- a kimono! Or a yukata...something Japanese and awesome!

I love the mask, but i was wondering if you have any advice about covering the mask with fabric instead of painting it. I would appriciate the insight. :)

That is so brilliant!! I've got a mask for my costume which I made last year, but I went the paper mache route, as well. It turned out pretty well, but I keep looking for a better way to make masks. I never thought of plaster strips! Duh :)

that's really awesome! I wonder if it's possible to just stick it on your face, maybe using fake eyelash/toupee glue? you knoow instead of a stick. or  punch holes in the side and put material through it? you know to tie it and look pretty.

This was an amazing episode thanks guys!!!!!... Just did mine and a couple tips to keep in mind 1) it helps to have a partner 2) dont put all your strips in water at once 3) the plaster strips can be found at any craft store near the plaster craft stuff.

So pretty! I've got two small suggestions... lotion up your face, and put some saran wrap over the areas you intent to put plaster (making holes for your eyes/nose, of course). Makes it a lot easier to take off, and protects your hair a little better. The other is to use something like puffy paint to add textured designs to the mask, if you're going for the Venetian look.

Hmmm... I kind of want to make one now. :D

I had to do a mask 2 days ago for my 2-year-old. I made it with paper mache and then put some felt in the interior, so it would be smooth for him, which turned out to be the best mask of his class (yey!)...I wish I had this video earlier this week, though...

I love this...I haven't created with plaster since highschool...loads of fun...but I think I will try this with paper mache'  (easier on the pocket).

I like the mask project.  I'd like to see more costumes, masks and hats.  I love anything theatrical.  I'd also like to see some puppets and dolls.

would LOVE to see a renaissance costume being made. I have already bought all the fabric, and am going to be Arwen for halloween. Tips on how to make elf ears would also help!

to speed up the drying to only 15 minutes..... put mask on a cookie sheet with foil. bake for 15 minutes at 400 degrees. =]

we've done something similar in school, but we used plastic wrap to cover the face (with holes for nose and eyes of course) it doesn't get itchy under it and you can take the mask off much easier, so you could try this as well. btw, great tutorial as always =)
