For this week's project we turned the show over to Anne, creator of http://www.retroroadtrip.etsy.com for an awesome tutorial on how-to make a cute nightie to match your panties Clare Bear showed us how-to make last year. The best part is she uses an old pillow case to do it. Upcycled and sexy!
I love pillowcase projects! So much so that I usually make them from scratch instead of actual pillowcases. I've made dresses, tops, and add drawstrings, elastic or belts to make it more form fitting or accessorized.
this is really cute, but it isn't scrunchie enough around the bust, so I took another pillowcase, died it the same color, and added some fabric to the sides to make it bigger, so it would make it more scrunchie. I added the leftover fabric of the other pillowcase to the botton tho make a dress!!! thank you so much I loved it
happy valentines day!
Wow, thanks so much for featuring my video tut! Thanks for the feedback everyone; I'm still fairly novice at sewing so it's nice to get some encouragement as well as some ideas of how to improve. I hope you all have a happy V-Day!!
Very cute! I have some black fabric that has hot pink polka dots on it (from wally world). I think I'll try a sweetheart neckline (no pun intended for upcoming V-Day). It should make for an awesome FOURTH Valentines for my co-hab bf and myself :) Thanks, Anne and TB.
When working with elastic you should always use a zigzag stitch. So sewing on the elastic with a straight stitch is just going to cause problems as soon as you put your top on (you'll rip all your stitching). Also- could use two matching pillows cut them open and sew them together to make a long piece of fabric (long sides together). Twice your over bust measurement+ a half should give you a really good ruffle (so it looks ruffled while you wear it- like claire bares undies). The rule of thumb for elastic is take your measurement and drop 2-4 inches. Elastic is very forgiving. I liked the ribbon at the bottom on the top you did though.
