Hey there :) I've painted a few paits of shoes for some friends, and they've taken quite the beating lol. One of the pairs I made for a friend he accidentally wore in Italy, in raining season, so the shoes themselves are soaked and gross now but the paint lasted! Just use acrylics, and I reccommend 2 coats of a matte sealer (there's a brand you can get at WalMart that's really cheap that I use)
Good luck!

congrats! the shoes are really cute, and your tut was clear and simple! have fun showing off your talents with the sewing machine! :)
The shoes I painted were canvas. You could also use fabric paint if you wanted something really durable, but I personally haven't tried painting with fabric paint.

The concept is a gimme - people have been DIYing it in this way for ages. Just ask any kid who scribbled on their sneakers in homeroom. Still, the tutorial was clear, succinct and whimsical. I liked it.
As to people hurling accusations of cheating, don't let them bother you. If you watch Threadbangers, you have access to the web. If you have access to the web, you have access to forums and boards on the web. Everyone who participated in this contest is on equal ground in that regard. it's not like one person comes from a big city and can ask thousands of people to vote for them, whereas someone else comes from the backwoods and can ask maybe 10 people to vote for them. Everyone has equal access to the same pool of millions of potential friends.
That's how elections work: you go out and ask people to vote for you. How many web shows have you watched where when something like the Webbies comes along, cajole their viewers to go vote for them and to get all the viewer's friends to vote too.
And in the end, the final adjudication fell on Rob and Corrine, so that even if someone with a piece of crap entry had managed to get thousands of friends to vote for them, they'd still have to get past R&C.
So gratz, LeCoco! Your next video can now show sewing projects with your nifty new sewing machine. I look forward to it.
Thanks to everyone who voted and commented, I really appreciate your support! Thanks to Rob and Corinne for choosing me as the winner, I feel special :)
wow, on her way to 50% of the votes. I feel bad for the others, but it's also great to see a clear winner. I doubt there is cheating here - it would take a room full of monkeys to make so many votes!
BTW, love the video. Congratulations.

Shows what you know! There is no way she could gain 2,000 votes in one day! Someone is cheating, and I know how it is being done. But again, I won't tell anyone of you guys how. That way, you won't be able to use it yourselves. :)

So, I thought the contest ended on March 5, yet voting polls are still going on. Whats up with that??? As of midnight last night, Veronica should be declared the winner and polls should be closed.
You're right about how the polls should be closed. Everything should be over now. About Veronica being the winner, actually, judges are going to choose the winner out of the top three videos. So being in first place doesn't necessarily mean you'll win. Surprisingly, even third place could be the winner!

computergenius is right. My brother cheats on polls all the time!
If they should be booted for their comments, then you should be booted for yours. I'm glad you're not an admin because you would most likely make a very bad one. Your own words show it.

I run 4 message boards with over 6000 members and I sent everyone of them a message to vote for this. Now I would say some of my members haven't voted yet.
There actually is a way to cheat. I've done it before on a poll and it is really easy. Of course, I won't tell any of you guys how to do it just so that you can't use it yourselves. :D

When you ask friends on the net to vote as she did, you can get votes just like how it works in the old Clairol Herbal Essences shampoo commercial, "I told two friends, and they told two friends, and so on, and so on, and so on. That's how I was asked to vote. Now off to email my friends and family and ask them to vote for her too!! (cause I liked her video) :p
There is no way she can get that many votes in so little time. If she really had so many friends, than how come they didn't decide to finally vote until just now when the voting is almost over?

This person is cheating on votes. I have been checking the poll 3 times a day. It has always been a fight between the Decopage and the Plastic Cup Lamp Shade. Then this person jumps around 400 points within 18 hours!!!! This person is cheating on votes.
You're totally right! There is no way she can get that many votes so quickly. I've been watching it too. It's just not possible! She must be cheating!

I'm sorry but I'm doing nothing of the sort. Someone sent a few messages to some of the people that commented on my video on youtube and I posted it on my facebook account but that's not cheating. I too am unsure how my votes rose so dramatically, however I am not doing anything.

It's extremely unfair to accuse her of cheating. Didn't it occur to you that word could spread about the video, instead of her finding a way to mess with the system? I know I tweeted about it to my followers, asking for them to watch the video & put in a vote.
Really, guys. Chill for a moment. Please give people the benefit of the doubt & remember that not everyone, even on the internet, has lost their integrity.

Has it occur to any of you that Chocolate/Veronika is well loved in the Threadbanger forum aswell? If you didn't, then now you know!
I have told all my other peeps to vote! & she has tons of friends besides
her TB pals!
Gosh, there's always has to be EVIL HATERS! Arg!!!!!!
Tooootles :)

@Justin...Yes, I know what you mean. I had been checking too. It's funny that they're still voting even AFTER the voting poll ended.

I am so making harry potter shoes >.> FANGIRL TEIM!
flipping genius i tell you. You have no officially taken ever cheap ballet flat that i've seen and now i can turn into an adorable shoe that is a one of a kind!!! love love your art work.
This is a great tutorial. The shoes look really cute. Do they get worn out quickly? I would hate to ruin them by wearing them after so much work... I love the stop-motion too.
As long as you use a good lacquer and real acrylic paints (I used some unidentified paint type and all the paint came off), then the shoes should be fine. My first pair are still mostly fine after a year of wear although they're a bit beat up.

Oh my god!! That is a freaking awsome tute! This video was much more interesting than some of the others. The video separates itself and is memorable just because of the technique used. Woot woot!!! I'm rooting for "Painted Shoes"
LOVE this episode! Shoes are ADORABLE!! what type of "good lacquer" did you use? spray? paint on? gloss? matte? I did "platform flip-flops" cpl yrs ago but paint cracked after a while. never thought about a lacquer!! and WHERE can I find the music from this band??
The band are Detektivbyrån, they're Swedish :)
To find the best lacquer, ask at a hardware store for something that will work on textiles/is flexible. Like I mentioned in the tutorial, mine was a spray.

This was excellent and has my vote. WOW! And I am excited that a new music group was introduced to me. Thanks!
I loved this video: it reminded me of "Amelie" (the music sounds exactrly like the soundtrack) and the style of cinematography is almost the same as that of the opening credits. Great work, and the shoes are very groovy looking,. It's great to see a shoe related tutorial: I don't think there's been one on Threadbanger yet (or I just haven't found it).

I love the music you use and the way you made your tutorial! It is absolutely fun to watch!
no way that is the cutest tutorial! i love the music, and the shoes are gorgeous! idk if wearing them in a city like chicago would be smart though i rarely wear my flats it's always so friggin cold here!
Oh yay, I'm in the top 25, how exciting!
In reply to brightdaylight, the paint on my first pair is still in perfect condition, I wore them all spring and summer in all sorts of conditions, on the beach, in the rain... only now they smell. But with a good lacquer they should last a long time.
