Pill(ar) Box Hat How-to, Threadbanger Contest Entry

I love this tutorial!  So easy.  And to think I almost spent A LOT of money on a pill box hat!

This tutorial is amazing! I've always wanted to make pill box hats but couldn't figure out how they would stay on my head without bobby pins. Great use of elastic thread! I've already made two (a red one with feathers and a black and gold button and a black one with white netting and a red button). I've used a glue gun instead and they turned out great! Keep up the good work!

Oh Trudy4Life, how I love thee!  This couldn't have come at a better time because when I offered to make something for my future sister-in-law for the wedding,she requested a pill box hat.  I had some ideas, but this totally saved my ass!  Cheers, and thank you!

I made two of these, this past weekend. This is an awesome use of scrap materials! 

Hat #1: I used a donated piece of scrap fabric (black satin with red cherries)
Hat #2: I used leftover plaid (Green base with red/white/orange stripes) from my xmas Stupid Creatures. I also added a black velvet bow to the back of this, via a safety pin

Note: I used Hot Glue instead of tape.  I attached the brim tabs alternating on the top and bottom of the top piece for stability. I also covered the inside (last) piece with fabric before attaching it.

Real-world reaction: ROFL! I ordered pizza for lunch. The guy, who rang me up, randomly sent me a txt that he really liked my hat.

great tut!! and to the "does it survive the rain" well it was free, so you could always make a new one, or, make it out of recycled plastic (like from take out, or from margarine or cool whip or something?) then it'd be water proof (oh and you'd def have to go the hot glue route then and not tape) 
but like I said, great tut! looks like lots of fun, and now I wanna get a bunch of the neighborhood girls over and do a bunch!!

BEST TUT SO FAR! They are soo cute and easy.  Great idea using the tab to measure to the strip AND using the sock to make the flower. Great job!

Very cute!  I don't really think I could pull this look off, but such a cute idea.  Also, the way you measured the circle with the strip.....i wish I knew this tips years ago.  My fav tutorial so far!

I love this idea! my sister bought a hat like one of these you made (not as good as yours though) at clairs for 14 $! It is so amazing to me that I can make a unique one of my own!! Thank you for the great tut!

Great Idea, I have made some similar hats to this but with a added brim, as in a mini top hat.  They look so cute and are fairly easy to make.  This is the best way I have found to reuse cardboard.  I especially liked the addition of the elastic, that's something I could have used on mine!   Great job Laura, you are darling!!

I don't wear hats, but I think this is a GREAT recycle / re-use project to do with the kids.   I really like the way you showed how to do the rim, the notch mark will make it so much easier than trying to measure.

I LOVED this tutorial!!! This is my favorite of them all!! Everyone did a really good job, but this one made me REALLY inspired to go out and actually make it! Yay! Nice job!!
