'The Other Boleyn Girl' by Phillippa Gregory (great book, horrid movie) and 'The Virgin Queen's Daughter' by Ella March Chase (a quick and suspenseful read).

Try out the Gorminghast Trilogy by Mervyn Peak.  Sting was working on a script many years ago, but I guess it never happened...have you already read His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman?  For comic books, a great steampunk series is Girl Genius...

A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray is a great book. there's 2 more after it: Rebel Angels and The Sweet Far Thing (which i am currently reading).
 they take place in the 19th century about magic and such :3

Meanwhile, I'm reading a great book called 'Summer at Tiffany' by Majorie Hart.  It's the (TRUE!)  humourous tale of two college girlfriends from Iowa who come to New York City one enchanted summer in 1945 near the end of WW2 who wind up working as the first female pages at Tiffany and Co.  Full of humor, romance, moxi, and with just a hint of a girl's best friend and plenty of fashon (one of the ladies was a true craftinista and made her own clothes) this book is one of the best reads I've read in a long time. Check it out!

Any book by John Wyndham. If you particularly like strong female characters start with Trouble With Lichen or Day of the Triffids (his most famous book). I also love The Chrysalids.

As for books, if you like fantasy novels, I would check out these two lists by Alan Skorkin.  10 Fantasy Series That Are Not Harry Potter or LotR, and 10 MORE Fantasy Series That Are Not Harry Potter or LotR.  Not saying I have a problem with either of those series, but after you finish them, people generally recommend you read the same few series.  This list covers fantasy series all over the spectrum, and I've enjoyed all that I've tried out so far.  My favorite is the Saga of Recluse, which currently stands at 15 books.  I loaded them onto my eReader and ate them up!  Happy reading!  :)

Patternmaking for Fashion Design by Helen Joseph Armstrong, while not a perfect reading book, is a pleasant introduction and advanced skills book for people looking to go into patternmaking. I bought it for myself one day, and I absolutely love it. It goes from the basic bodice to using knits to making a pants pattern all from measurements. It's awesome, and really well illustrated. I just read "Three Cups of Tea" by Greg Mortenson. It is totally inspiring! He is building schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Since you're interested in causes, you will probably love it!

i did this from my son who's almost two and he loves them! he loves all the clothes i make for him. as for books i recomend anything by laurall k. hamilton! either the Anita Blake Series or the Meredith Gentry Series! they are amazing! and will last you a long time since both of them arent finished.

Well, I really love "The book of flying" by Keith Miller and "Bleeding Hearts" by Ian Ranking ;) - the first is fantasy, the second is a thriller ^^

You have to read Going Bovine by Libba Bray. It's a young adult book book so it only takes a day or two to read. It's about a slacker who waited until he was dying (of mad cow disease) to live.
Also Sprout by Dale Peck- also a young adult book about a brilliant outcast in Kansas. It gets a little dull in the middle and I have not finished it yet but so far it's a best writing I have ever seen. Laugh out loud funny and tear jerking everyone needs to read this book.

I've always allowed myself to get lost in good books, and my home is flooding over with them :) 
Of what I've read the last 24months, I must say that Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen were perhaps the best ones. 
Of older favorites, Life of Pi by Yann Martel and Watership Downs by Richard Adams are the first ones I always recomend to those who haven't read them yet...

A good fantasy read is the Hollow chocolate bunnies of the apocalypse, definatly one to read

I'm always looking for a good book to read.  Rachel Caine wrote a couple off good ones.  The first is the Weather Warren series.  Ill Wind is the first book in the series.  Her other series that I really like is the Morganville Vampire series.  It hooked my rather quickly.  The first book is Glass House.  I also really like the Hollows series by Kim Harrison.  Her first book is Dead Witch Walking.  I lost count of how many times I read the books.  Almost as many times as Harry Potter. (o:

You might like to try the 'Otherland' series by Tad Williams.  It is well written with excellent characterization and interesting ideas.  And if you are looking for something a little "out there"  Steven Kings 'Dark Tower' series is a great read that will leave you wanting for more if you can get yourself through the first few chapters.  Enjoy.

This might sound lame, but lately I've been rereading books that I loved when they were read to me as a kid. Some of my favorites are: Peter Pan, The Jungle Book, A Wrinkle In Time, and the His Dark Materials trilogy (The Golden Compass, etc)

Sky Burial by Xinran Xue. It's the true story of a Chinese woman who spends her life searching for her husband in the Tibetian wilderness. It's an incredible, touching story, and I highly recommend it.

EPIC pre-historic fiction: The Earth's Children series by Jean M. Auel, starting with "The Clan of the Cave Bear." It's much more relevant than you'd realize, considering it takes place 30,000 years ago.

EPIC sci-fi: "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Robert A. Heinlein. Also incredibly relevant, but philosophically deep. I picked up things on the second reading that I didn't notice the first time around.

I recommend the Harry Dresden books by Jim Butcher. Fantastic series.

As far as books go, I'm a sucker for fairy tales so one of my favorite authors is Robin McKinley. She does wonders with the classic tales - it's like Disney princesses for grown-ups. Two of my favorites are Spindle's End (the story of Sleeping Beauty) and Rose Daughter (Beauty and the Beast).

Fantasy books (and I'm not a fantasy genre person) that were fantastic are by Lois McMaster Bujold.  My favorite author (for historical fiction) is Sharon Kay Penman -- all of her books I can read over and over.

I love it!!! I made these in less than an hour! I repurposed my husbands unwanted T-shirts tho... you know the ones ppl give that you can't imagine ever wearing... I had to stitsh them all together first, but it made for really fun yoga pants!

But I just finished a Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde and it was amazing. I also have to give a shout out to Laurel K. "Geek love" is an amazing book that i cant put down, i would tell you about it but i would go off on an hour tangent about it so maybe if you google it you'll find out all about it... ok so its about a cicus family who the parants took all kinds of drugs and chemicles to make it so her children are diformed enough so that they always have a lifetime of security within the cirus, the story is told by the third birth that was a sucsess (many others failed) and she is an albino bald midget named Oly she has four other siblings, the eldist is arty whom is a fish boy, then she has two older sisterand thay are siamize twins. and now she has a new little brother witch i wont tell you about, I'll leave it a suprise for when you read it like i know you will now.

Can't Buy My Love by Jean Kilbourne is an amazing non-fiction book all about media representations in advertisements and how they can shape the way people view gender, race, body-imgae, relationships, sexuality, and violence.  It is terrific and very eye opening!   Other great reads: The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, Prozac Nation by Elizabeth Wurtzel, Guyland by Michael Kimmel, That's Not What I Meant by Deborah Tannen, and Manifesta by Jennifer Baumgardner and Amy Richards.  These are all FABULOUS!

that's completely awesome that you're sticking to the resolutions!  for a workout that will tone (and kill you!) check out Killer 550 Rep Workout on youtube...  Zuzana;s workouts are a killer, but the variety works!

As for books, may i recommend House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski (It's a heavy read, but worth it.  It's a mind blowing book).  And "Pride and Predjudice and Zombies" and "Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters" both adaptations of Jane Austen books, fantastic!  

And my 7 year old wanted to chime in that everything you do is fantastic!  She loves threadbanger as much as i do!

I'm a poet, so of course I am thrilled to recommend some books: since you are interested in social causes, you might be interested in Jill McDonough's book HABEAS CORPUS - it's a collection of poems about the death penalty in America, using sonnets to explore the lives of prisoners who have been executed (starting in the 17th century, I believe, and going through the end of the 20th).  As for fiction, you might enjoy HALF OF A YELLOW SUN, which is about the civil war in Nigeria, or for something slightly less intense, but also socially-minded, THE SECRET LIVES OF BEES (Sue Monk Kidd) is a feel-good favorite of mine.

i know you get this a lot, but threadbanger is really inspiring.  i was so excited, Corinne, to learn that you care about the planet, and people, and being healthy.  its good that your a positive influence in this world.

Book I'm reading right now is Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell and I can't put it down! It's about magicians in the 1800s in England. Great writing style. Another interesting one is Raw Shark Texts... it's very different and exciting. Neuromancer is good for the oldschool cyberpunk.

Gil's All Fright Diner is awesome. I suggest it to everyone who loves vampires, witches, werewolves, zombies and general insanity. It's a really funny book. YOU ALL SHOULD READ IT!! GO!! DO IT NOW!! =^_^=

The Giver by Lois Lowry, it’s a quick and easy read but one that really makes you think ( I reread it every few years), Laurell K Hamilton’s Anita Blake series, very addicting and Anne Frasier is becoming another favorite.

The graveyard book by neil gaiman was nice, then midnighters by scott westerfeld, trudi canavan's black magic trilogy, definitely terry pratchett's discworld novels if you like a good love (I love death, the witches and the city watch, Moist von Lipwig and Tiffany Aching are cool, too). Those are great books!
And Anne Rice if you like vampires (who don't sparkle but are wicked and fascinating) Lestat de Lioncourt is my favorite character in literature

If you like fantasy books you should read the books of David Eddings. They are funny and get me tangled up in them all the time. :)

You look fantastic! I wish I had been as diligent with my goals as you obviously have! I'm a HUGE reader too. In the last three weeks I've gone through five books... and that includes waiting time for the library to get the book I requested in! I love a strong heroine and funny banter with a little romance or sexual tension thrown in. My all time favorite book series is the Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich. There are 15 of them so far (plus some 'between the numbers' books) and they are hilarious. I mean, what's better than a female bail bonds woman who always seems to get into trouble? Lately I've been reading the Body Movers series by Stephanie Bond. They are along the same lines of a good light read with funny banter and great characters. What are some of your favorite books?

Oh! GO read The Blood Confession. It is great and based on a true story (which, when you read it, will seem insanely scary) It's based on the story of Elizabeth (not pronounced with the normal th sound but with a hard t) Batory of Hungry. She was the original inspiration for Dracula even if his name came from another blood thirsty Lord.

"The Intelligent Design of Jenny Chow" a play by Rolin Jones.  It's incredibly unique, hilarious, inspiring, and has a FLYING ROBOT.

"The Baron in the Trees" is a good book. If your still young at heart, "His Dark Materials" set and "The Look Glass War" trilogy are great. ^^

I just finished the Book of Lost Things by John Connolly which was a great, quick read and have moved on to The Book Thief by Markus Zusak  -- amazing so far!!  Winkie by Clifford Chase is great, and my very favorite book of all time is actually a young adult novel called Number the Stars, by Lois Lowry.  Also in the kids section and DEFINITELY worth checking out are The Miraculous Journey of Edward Toulane, by Kate DiCamillo and the Invention of Hugo Cabret (amazing, amazing, AMAZING) by Brian Selznick.

I am sort of a bookworm so i have so many favorite books. But here are my top three.
1. The Uglies series by Scott Westerfield
    These book are set in the future and tell of how the pressures of the world like popularity and fame effect them. 
2. The lost book series by Ted Dekker
    Tells of these 7 lost books of history that could save or destroy the world and the adventures that 4 teenagers trying to find the books while battling evil

Either way, if you're into paranormal romance at all, I highly suggest anything by Sherrilyn Kenyon, especially anything from her Dark-Hunter series. "The Looking Glass Wars" is really good too if you enjoy Alice in Wonderland. "Stray" was interesting and well written if you want to look that up as well.

How do we do this tutorial with a regular sewing machine?

I've got to say, I really like the idea! This will be a good one to try. And as for books . . .check out Tamora Pierce's "Song of the Lioness" series. It is super good; it's one of my all time favorite series.
